    The additives are not injected by the truck driver or the station owner. The additive packages are injected at the pipeline product terminals under automation control based on the shipper (which in most cases is the oil company). Octane is blended at the refinery. Most gasoline is fungible at the pipeline product terminal, meaning it might be delivered to an Exxon service station but could have been made at a ConocoPhillips refinery. The big companies do produce their own detergent additive packages.
