    42 U.S. Code § 7545. Regulation of fuels

    42 U.S. Code § 7545 - Regulation of fuels | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute

    (l) Detergents

Effective beginning January 1, 1995, no person may sell or dispense to an ultimate consumer in the United States, and no refiner or marketer may directly or indirectly sell or dispense to persons who sell or dispense to ultimate consumers in the United States any gasoline which does not contain additives to prevent the accumulation of deposits in engines or fuel supply systems. Not later than 2 years after November 15, 1990, the Administrator shall promulgate a rule establishing specifications for such additives.

This does not mean it does not happen, but it is illegal.

AND.....the specifications are conspicuously missing from that quote.
It is generally accepted that the "required" detergent level is the bare minimum, and as such is minimally effective.

Whether or not it is really present is a whole 'nuther matter.

We must be using the same alligator repellent. Or perhaps I just keep the doors closes?

When I used to watch commercials, all the gas companies said they include cleaning additives in
their fuel to keep car injectors and intake manifolds and valves clean. Some even showed before
and after photos of those parts from using their fuel as being cleaner. Did they lie, or not?
Since I am not there personally when they produce the fuel, I cannot say whether they do or not.
I can only "assume" they are telling the truth. Why would they lie????

If you inflate your tires to 46 pounds and gain 10mpg, then lower them to 36 and lose 10mpg,
then you inflate your tires to 46 pounds and gain 10mpg, then lower them to 36 and lose 10mpg,
Would you come to the conclusion that adding ten pounds of pressure to your tires gains you
    10 more miles per gallon?

As I state, 'IT WORKED FOR ME". And continues to work for me.
It doesn't matter if YOU believe it or not. If I try something, and it works, that is all that matters to me.

    The horse has died. :(:cry::sleep:

Off topic, but is that an actual thing you've done, or a for-purposes-of-argument example?

Pre 1995, companies added much more additives to higher Octane gas, less to regular

1995, the EPA set additive minimums and gas companies tended to just add the minimum legally required.

Automobile manufacturers banded together to recommend Top Tier gas, a higher detergent grade.

    What is Top Tier Gas?

It was just an example. I put 40 in my tires, and no mileage change. Just a harder noisier ride.
36 front and rear for me. :)
I was trying to make a point. If you do "X", and get a certain result, then it works for you(or someone).

    Obviously.
The problem IS that you have no real evidence that it actually works for anything.
But a really LOT of people don't seem to understand what real evidence IS.

    Still beating that dead horse?
I have MY evidence for ME. As I stated MANY MANY times, 'IT WORKED FOR ME".
I doesn't matter if it works for anyone else or not.
Be like Ripley's, believe it or not. Results may vary.

If YOU wish to supply the vehicles and pay me, then I will do a 5 year study and get ANY evidence
    that will make you happy.

Just remember, money talks, but with me, it better YELL!

The poor horse is dead! If you choose to keep beating it, have at it. But I won't...

But I bet that you won't hesitate to repeat your "non-proof" again later if the subject comes up.
