Got an e-mail that the 2011 5 needs a fuel pump -- don't see that this is a common problem. I have to trust my independent on this one -- I'm out of the USA at the moment. My sister was in it === needed to be towed

He is going to use a Toyota part. Does anyone know if the tank has to be removed?

The part is in the $400 range although I'm having problems getting a USA based site so not completely sure. -- looks like my first expensive repair on the car .. 155k

I'm sure its 4 hours if the tank has to come out at a minimum -- I will be close to 1k.

I think there's a removable panel in the floor (after popping out the rear seat bottom cushion) providing access.

Yep, it all pops out after removing the rear seat base. Last time I looked it is about 30-45 mins for the entire job.

Pretty sure it's under the seat.
    Remove seat: 20 seconds.
Remove and replace filter (part of pump/sender unit)....maybe 20 minutes.

So ... Back home to a $750 bill. It was the fuel pump ... car has been running fine.

OE pump/ seal in the $400+ range -- $220 labor for diagnostic and R&R. Towing and tax ....

yes, pump is behind the rear seat like everybody say. It's like that for all Import vehicles. You drop the tank when its domestic vehicles :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Couldn't do it through the floor in Gen 1 Prius either ... glad I never had to do it.

In Australia I believe it's a routine (albeit not that routine) maintenance?

No more good 'ol days, when the fuel filter was a simple can with spigots at both ends, inline with a fuel line and readily accessible.
