To clarify: That is all EV mode. The mpg, which I think really should be called MPGe , is rapidly climbing each and every trip, strangely the future range (consumption) also increases, sometimes. I havn't quite figured that one out.
I have posted this before, on two continuous and separate trips, I got 25 and 27 miles total EV mode. What is difficult is being aware of the exact moment you enter HV mode.
Dang, how did you get it so high? Granted mine prob gets fully charged a coupe to a few hrs just before I drive it so that may have something to do with it.
my estimated ev range is up to 14.9, from the 13.1 when i got it from the dealer.probably because my commute is all ev, 14.8 miles and i usually have .4-.6 left when i get home.
When the EV light goes out or the info screen, depending on which one you are on, indicates the ICE is assisting, right? In any case, I am impressed! My record is 16 miles traveled on EV. I have some hills to contend with, especially to get home. Was yours attained in a loop, with the starting and ending points being the same? Or were you mostly going downhill the whole way? Or are you adding together segments with regen helping?
My PIP shows 10.4 now, every morning - no exception - very consistent. So I decided to test my true EV range Friday by taking no freeway to or from work ( I usually have 2 miles on the freeway) and using only surface streets. I didn't really focus on the drive - I wanted to 'just drive it'. I squeezed 13.8 EV miles out of my PIP Friday, even though I began with my usual, estimated 10.4 charge. So not great, but I suppose if i really focused and tried all the recommended 'hypermiling' techniques, the mileage would have been a bit higher.
Next favorable descent, after a charge, drive in EV, but first set either trip A or B. As you are driving along you notice that you only have 6 miles left, but the trip shows 15 miles. 15 + 6= 21 miles total range thus far correct? As you proceed your total range will improve a bit more, until you run out of EV charge and must continue on HV.
The first time was returning from Jackson Casino, on the whole it is a huge descent, however there are about three pretty good hills to climb. I was conservative on the hill up portion and held the car at the speed limit coming downhill. Yes, you are adding to your total EV RANGE by regenerating. This is how you turn 10 or 12 mile charge into 25 or better.
999 is a different screen and a different subject. 999 indicates Infinity, correct ? And 999 refers to mpg, we are speaking of total EV RANGE, correct? Anytime the car is moving in EV, infinite mpg is the case.
I have a theory on how to improve the initial charging range. To a designed limit. I have not proved it. However commuters that consistently use all of thier EV charge on a daily basis, SHOULD, show a higher #. This may have to do with the computers remembering, how you drive, your range and your requirements. So, the individual that is driving 25 miles may consistently get a better charge than the person driving 8 miles.
You may be an example of my theory. The computers are trying to meet your needs, therefore a better charge than some.
OK, but the thread title is "Fully Charged EV Range." To me that is a different question from what you are describing.
We should define EVrange, it seems members were concerned with low range and or improving range ? Since the Prius designed charge is set, the only possibility of increasing range is thru driving adeptness. The real goal should be how to improve EV range. ( before depletion) This is my first post !
"EV-boost" confuses matters though. Depleting from the battery-pack while the engine is warming up and while crusing at speeds faster than 100 km/h (62 mph) provides remarkable MPG. That mode is great for efficiency, but doesn't count as EV miles. It's considered HV, since the engine is running. The fact that MPG is spiked at +100 on the display shouldn't be excluded from discussions. It likely will reduce the EV range estimate as well. New owners will be concerned pretty much no matter what information we post. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, since knowing there's a lot to observe enhances the ownership experience. You feel like your purchase is well thought out, when so many factors are already accounted for... and you get incredible results no matter how you drive it.
There is a very easy way to measure your total EV range Set a trip to zero, and then add EV miles left and trip miles. When EV icon disappears, at that instance, the trip is reading your TEV.
