The Intelligent Power Module inside the inverter module in "certain" Prius models "may be damaged from high operating temperatures".

If it does occur warning lamps will light and you may be in a "limp home mode".

The dealer will reprogram you car if it is on the recall list. If you have already had this problem Toyota "will replace the inverter assembly with an new one at no charge".

Doesn't affect the Prius Plus or v, only the Gen 3 hatch, different inverter components.

Any properly-designed electronic circuit should throttle itself before it overheats, causing damage. Unless of course, some MBA instructed the engineer not to.
