Having issues with the gas gauge..2007 Prius 169,345 miles "bladder"

Added 4 gallons this morning, gauge did not register. Added 2 gallons after lunch, gauge reads full tank. This has been going on for two weeks.. I believe it the gauge.. Any idea on replacement costs?

    Thanks in advance.

The sender for the gauge is in the tank, so replacement involves replacing the tank. But I think what you see is common enough, and maybe not much of a concern. For example:

Thanks nh70. Any Idea if needed what the cost is?

It doesn't sound like anything needs fixed, its just the way it is. Fixing it will just leave your wallet a little lighter.
If you read the thread nh7o linked to, the issue is caused by your small fillups and the way the gas gauge works. The best fix would be going another 50-100 miles each tank before filling up. As long as you have at least 2 or 3 pips left, you shouldn't be in any danger of running out.

    vskid3,

Thanks for the response. However that scenario does not apply to me. I filled yesterday evening 8 u.s. gallons. Started the vehicle this morning full tank. go out to lunch today and I'm below a half of tank.

    Thanks anyway.

It's called the "Guess Gauge" for a good reason. Here is another thread:

On the second page is a procedure to recalibrate the gauge. I haven't tried it, but maybe it will help.
