I recently purchased a new prius 2015. When I first got the vehicle and filed up it would say I had approximately 600 miles to go now it says I have approximately 400 something and I actually get a little under 400. So how many miles do you get let tank? Are they mostly highway or town miles? When you fill up how many miles does your car say you have? Also I was wondering if anyone actually gets there battery meter to ever say full I cam never seem to get the last bar. And when I purchased the car they told me I couldn't go any faster then 15mph in ev mode but I actually can't go any faster then 8 mpg which kind of mashes the feature useless. Anyone else have this problem?

I haven't had my 2012 long enough to actually complete a tank of gas yet...but I do know that my EV mode will work up until I reach 26 mph or until the battery reaches two bars

My car usually tells me why it is canceling EV mode (excessive speed or low battery for example) in the top right of the multi function display at the top. I'm not sure if it always does this though (someone more experienced than me will have to answer that). I have only been using EV to putt around parking lots really and only at the end of the drive when the car's warmed up (it may not do much in EV if it isn't). As far as battery I know that is normal - the top bar is reserved by the system for extra regeneration, such as if you are going down a long, steep hill, to prevent overcharging.

you're not supposed to 'try to get the battery full', you're supposed to work on increasing your mpg's.;)

Well I should mention that I topped it off after buying it...when I drove it off the lot it was getting a whopping 23 mpg. Probably had it running all day

Our Prius delivers about 500 miles per tank if I drive till the flashing pip AND drive conservatively. Remember YMMV. I drive a combination of highway and city miles, though mainly it is around town.

When I fill up it usually shows around 570, sometimes a little less.

As far as EV goes, I really don't use it that much. I let the system decide what is best at the given time. If I am gliding it will go into EV mode on it's own if I am going less than 45 MPH.

When it is cold the EV will disengage very early - 8 to 10 MPH whereas once the system is warmed up EV will not kick out until around 25 or so. The above refers to using the EV button (mode) as the OP was asking about.

Battery should normally show max of 6 bar UNLESS you are going down a long hill and doing a lot of regeneration. The Prius is designed to only use 40 to 80 % of the battery to add to the longevity of it's life. Even at 8 bars, the battery is only 80% full. Don't fret over the battery meter on the car. I have seen ours go anywhere from two bars to six bars normally. I have never seen it on one bar and have only seen it on 8 bars when I was coming down the side of a mountain in B mode.

Enjoy your new Prius and "Welcome to Prius Chat"! (y)
