i read that prices are dropping in some areas, and they are opening the reserves so voters won't feel like anything is wrong in the world

My bad on my previous posting. The result on gas consumption is the same. So I reverse my claim. Sorry for the wrong posting.

Down to my last 5 gallon bottle reserved since my last purchased of $3.50. It will be devastating to know the present price when I fill-up next 2-1/2 weeks from now. I'm pressing the gas pedal on my prius like an egg...:-plnktn-:

I saw Regular gas at $5/gal posted today. First time ever with $5 at the beginning of the posted price. Apparently it had gone up after the memorial day weekend. I was hoping it would come down. My wife had to go the city yesterday, and did some shopping at BJ's. She called me if she should fill up the tank. At $4.65/gal, it was $0.25 cheaper than the cheapest gas station in my town. So, the car (PP) is now filled with the most expensive gas I have ever purchased.

Oh, and I also had to have the heating oil delivered. We don't use for heating the house now, but still need to burn it to get hot water flowing. Could not justify filling 275 gal tank with absurdly expensive oil, so just asked for 100 gal at $5.85/gal. Yep, that is almost triple the price I paid a year ago.

we've been getting it at last years cap price of $3.00/gallon. this year it's $4.00

you have to pay for the cap guarantee, so it's a gamble. the oil company does the same to lock it in.

I hope the ice cream boy will come up with something better soon than "deal with it...."

If your vendor has $4.00/gal for this year (for next heating season), then I would suggest locking it in. In our region, no-one is offering lock-in price at this time. They have no idea how the market is going to behave. And they can't guarantee the lock-in price at price lower than what they actually paid for the oil they already have in stock, meaning, any lock-in price now is going to be higher than $5.85/gal.

On GasBuddy's Seattle-region page, there are only 8 prices right now that don't start with $5. Just 6 start with $4, and 2 start with $6. The Tacoma region is similar.

Did I have a brain fart and overlook a bunch of $4.99 prices yesterday, or did someone enter a bunch of them since?

Anyway, today it is an unknown number right at $4.99, and 6 below that. Average $5.48, with two above $6.
