    Howdy Prime Family!

We've had our prius for about 2 years now. Recently, when we press the gas tank button, the gas tank lid doesn't want to open.

Does anyone else have an issue like this yet?

Ive tried cleaning the knob and for some reason after not fueling for a week or two the button won't open the gas tank.

This morning I pressed it 5-6 times and it finally opened after about 3 min lol.

I tried pressing the button again and it worked. It's so random.

After a few years, you'll find the hinge has become dry and needs a tiny bit of lubrication.

Would it still be warranty item?

Depends on how many miles on the car.

Probably just a simple need for some oil as @john1701a already mentioned. Had the same issue a while back with my wife's '07. (y)

Edit to add: if you press the button and the door doesn't open, it may have opened just enough that you can pull it the rest of the way open with your fingernails. If it didn't move at all, then it'll take two people.

Yeah, I'm just thinking, OP mentioned "about 2 years" ownership, and with basic warranty being 3 years or 36K miles, get dealership on it, verify it's not a failing/sticking cable somewhere in there.

I have less than 300 miles left on my 3yr/36k warranty. So either way is likely.

Is it a mechanical lever, or an electrical button, on the Prime. Curious.

Electrical push button on the PiP and Prime. I assume the same on all Gen 3 & 4?

Is it possible the Evap system has to go through a 'pressure equalization' routine before releasing the door?

It was noted here that the Prime has a positive pressure fuel tank evap system, like other PHEV's, to help keep the fuel fresher and moisture out.

Possibly your system is slow to equalize for some reason....? (just a wag....)
