Talk about a crook. This guy must not be selling much gas unless he has a monopoly in that area.

Supply and Demand my friend. There are only 3 (? maybe more since 2004 when I was there last) stations in Death Valley. Its hundreds of miles to civilization.

He has the gas - you need the gas.

I figured it out. In the original post, he had a type - he didn't mean to say "Gas will be $2.00 a gallon"; he meant "Gas will be $2.00 a liter."

    Definitely always higher.

    Nailed!

Wow! How did you ever find that just from the picture and guesses? I wonder which picture was taken first - this one shows 1c higher.

I guess I'll never understand this. A crook is somebody who takes your money against your will. If gasoline costs more than you want to pay, then don't buy it, or use less of it. Nobody is forcing you to buy it at any price. As others have said, if you "Need" it and somebody is selling it, you pay the price. If we keep the cost of gas artificially low (which we are currently doing all through the country BTW) then we're all screwed.

I still think gas prices will drop, I may have just said 6 months too soon. It will also depend on how deep this recession gets. Once it starts to drop, the price speculation will move on to other things.

I said i think I am about 6 months to soon in my prediction. What do you think will happen as the economy continues to slow?

I think gas will follow the same pattern that it has for the last couple of years. The price will go up until there are threats of Congressional hearings (which has predictably happened already this spring) then the gas prices will drop somewhat so that the more attention-deficit challenged members of the public will be happy that the prices have dropped (but not down to previous levels).

I don't believe that we will see gas prices below $3 in California again this year (or ever). If that happens, I will change my avatar to a Chevy Tahoe for a week in contrition.

I agree, no matter how bad a recession, gas companies don't really care, they have gotten prices on an upward spiral, just like they wanted, they will only bounce prices, but still head them up, at least until election time or new administration, then it will start to stabilize at what ever price it is by then. If McCain gets in, it will continue upward, anyone else it will slow its upward process a lot.

Depending on the Iraq/Iran oil powerhouse timeframe, that will be the deciding factor for either stability or continued upward rise in oil prices trigger.

Ah, the old GM "It will be ready in three years" defense. First it was Spring, then it's "six months" which would put it in August. When we ask again in August, he'll reply "I *SAID* six months from now! Look for it sometime in February, guaranteed!"

I hope you hold some of the folks on here who have been predicting $5 and $10/gallon gas accountable too!

Malorn's so funny ~ gas prices dropping. :D

Maybe he wants us to all trade in our Prius' ??

    Maybe buy a couple Suburbans?

    Maybe give Lutz a raise?

Maybe he better not buy gas in San Luis Obispo

    So much for wishful thinking.

Malorn the Malornian, Malorn the Destructor! The Traveller has come!

In 2016 gasoline will cost approximately US$4.00 - US$4.50 (in current dollars) per gallon, not including taxes. That will be the price required to make a profit on artificial gasoline manufactured from atmospheric CO2 and water. Thereafter the price in constant currency will not change significantly until demand falls so far that no one wants to bother making it anymore.

Who counts California? $3 of it is probably state tax.

Average price in the US is $3.29/gallon. Based on your photo the average price in San Luis Obispo would be $1.90 if the average price in the US was FREE!

Might be sooner than that. We have the lowest Fuel taxes in the OECD don't we? Of course, it varies from state to state, but what's the average? Anyone know?

Yeah I do, 50 cents is the average tax, and Malorn, the Federal and State tax for gas is 36 cents in California, 18 cents federal and 18 cents state, so much for your prediction there.
