I am trying to figure out a part number for the removable cross bars listed as a genuine toyota accessory for the 2024 Prius on the Toyota web site. Closest thing I can find is PW301-02009 which is the part number for the Carolla hatchback Crossbars. From my research based on a reddit post and a priuschat post the Carola hatchback roof is narrower at both the front door and rear door.

Is anyone familiar with this accessory or know what the Prius Removable Crossbar part number is?

Here is a picture of the Cross Bars.

Call Parts at your local Dealership. They will give you the "most up to date" item/kit numbers. Then start shopping for price...if that's your intent.

I left them a message. In the meantime I think I find the number. Looks like PW301-47009 and they are using an old photo from the Gen 4 Prius on their site. You can see the wave shape in the rear hatch.

If anyone has an more info on fitting these on a gen 5 prius I would be curious to hear.

Wow. When I spoke with parts dept at my dealer while picking up the car, they said none exists in the system. Must have been added just recently? Definitely interested, keep us posted OP.

EDIT: I just tried to build a new prius on toyota's website and it still has no option for roof bar??

@otatrant OEM roofbars are the answer however FWIW, we use our "Sea Suckers" roof bars on the prius to move my wife's canoe. We use these bars on different cars and have done 3k mile roadtrips with them carrying a thule box so they are secure. They are highly configurable, you can move them pretty much where you want them on the roof.

Only downside is they transfer the load on to the sheet metal instead of the side rails so you have to be careful how much weight you add to them.

@otatrant any updates on this? I am very motivated to get factory bars that can be made to work. FYI, I called my Toyota dealer who looked up national inventory and said no one in USA has those bars you posted above in stock.

I bought a set with part number PW301-47009 from North Park Toyota of San Antonio for $307 with shipping and tax. UPS expected delivery date is tomorrow.

I am a little nervous to see if it will fit. I have looked at several pictures comparing Gen 5 roof and Gen 4 roof and they look similar enough I figured to make it worth giving them a shot. Supposedly they are made by Thule and they look pretty similar to Aeroblade bars with a edge clamp. I can't find anything with that exact combination from Thule in their store.

One problem I know I will have to deal with are the are the pins on the supports that are aligned with predrilled holes on Gen 4 Prius roofs. Most Thule racks do not use pins to attach or align on roofs eg the 2023-2025 Prius Thule Kit 145367. Assuming I can find a 2 positions on the roof that span the roof width successfully I will need to decide whether I want to drill holes in my Prius roof or cut off the pins. Hopefully that is the only really challenge to mounting them.

Here are the steps from the instructions referring to the aligning pins to give a better idea of what I am talking about.

    Prius Chat-rack pins.png

Within a couple days I should have a better idea of what it is going to be like to install them. I'll update this thread afterward.

Great, thanks for taking the leap for us. Eager to hear how it goes. I would personally cut off the pins, just saying.

@otatrant you may already know, but worth saying. The paint/clear on the roof rails (and generally everywhere on this car) is very thin. Easily scratched. While you are working with the roofbars, especially while cranking it down, I would be extra careful.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a little roll of PPF so I will make a point of apply some first. Hopefully that is enough to protect the paint.

Got them on. They fit pretty good. First cut off the pins. Had to make a second pretty simple adjustment shaving off about 1/8 inch of the rubber feet of the front crossbars. About 19.5" between crossbars front to back. Here are some pics.

Wow, that's great to know. Thank you for sharing the info.

Questions - Is it safe to assume where they go is where they go on the roof? i.e., can the front bar be mounted a bit farther towards the hood or the rear bar a bit more towards the shark fin? I assume the length of the crossbar is the limiting factor - how does the cross bar attach to the ratcheting mechanism? Can the crossbar itself be replaced perhaps with a longer one (i.e., Thule makes a longer 'wingbar evo')

Regardless, great to know its a factory option for us 5th genners. Such a great price too

The back cross bar just fit really well there about an inch in front of the back edge of the panoramic glass.

I am wondering that myself. Many references on the web especially for roof top boxes or cargo baskets cite a minimum distance of 22"-24". I didn't get the cross bars till early evening and just happened to get them fitted right before the sun went down so I got it to a point where I can drive with them and mount my Starlink on the rear crossbar. I am planning on trying to get them a couple inches further apart since many roof rack mounted accessories cite the 22" to 24".

Unlike the Thule branded cross bars the directions do not state how to separate the bars from the clamps. I am sure there is a way to separate them just not intuitive from looking at it.

I was able to easily remove the rubber feet and removed the front two to trim the little lip off with a utility knife to get them to sit flat since the roof steel on the 5th gen prius is a little wider and taller than I estimate the steel on the 4th gen prius to be from pictures. I read on one site that one of the differences between the prius cross bars and I think maybe the carolla cross bars are the rubber feet and the angle they are cut.

    Copy, good to know.

Agree, 20 inches between bars is workable, but a bit narrow.

You will need to remove the plastic trim pieces that cover the ratcheting mechanism/feet.

Incidentally, I purchased a cheap amazon universal bar set and ran into the same issue - front bar needed to be 44 inches wide to mount it where I wanted on our cars and the supplied bar was only 41 inches. The crossbar was riveted on to the ratcheting feet and I drilled out the rivets and swapped in a longer bar with thru bolts. I got the setup to work however the reason I abandoned the project was the horrific wind noise. I would expect factory/Thule bars to be engineered for minimal wind noise at highway speeds. There is a lot of science in this thing.

It's easy to hack a $60 setup, but I wouldn't be so ready to hack up a factory bar. If the crossbar is attached via bolts, it would be very easy to do.

    Good tip, thank you.

    Keep us posted!

Today I used a dremel to cut off the little stump from the pin I cut previously with pliers on the front bars. Removing the little stump made it easier to separate the bars by another 2-1/2 inches so now the bar spread is 22 inches. The poor job I did removing the pin the first time caused some little scratches on the bottom of the roof luckily it is not very visible.

Here are some pics to better show then new positioning.

    upload_2025-5-15_19-12-45.png

The front edge of the rubber feet of the front bar is 14” from the front edge of the panoramic glass roof.

As stated previously the back edge of the rubber foot for the rear rack is 1” in front of the rear edge of the panoramic roof. Here is a picture.

Here is a picture of the rear rack rubber foot with a red line illustrating the lip I cut off on both front feet to get them to sit flat.

I took this pic of the left front foot with the lip cut off.

The 4th gen Prius was released in 2016 and one of the manuals for the crossbars are dated July 2018.

I got some pics of the bolts and nuts holding the bars onto the clamps. Looks like a propriety setup.

    From above.

Here is a view of edge of the cross bar where it attaches to the clamp.

Here is a youtube video from rackwarehouse for installing Thule Aeroblade Edge bars. Clamps look different but bars look identical from the outside. Without removing the clamps from the bars it is hard to see what a cross section of the bar actually looks like.

Also able to get the back rack positioned 2 inches further back to increase the spread to 24". Found some more little scratches made from hastily mounting the bars. Will touch up later once I give the car a clean.

Thanks @otatrant for the info. I think you got it to work for your needs - 24" spread is decent.

I got the bar spread up to 27.5" by moving the rear bars back another 3.5" made possible by cutting off the rubber lip on the rear feet like I did on the front feet. Here is a picture a rubber foot before and after cutting it off.

I got the Thule wingbars and they fit well. I test mounted them as far wide as I typically mount my seasucker bars and they work. In reality, I think I would mount the rear Thule bar a bit more forward. Everything is well designed, went together easily and assembles on the car in minutes.
