OK so at Bayshore (Mall) and our IKEA there are to EV ev chargers. And usually, I always see a REGULAR Toyota Prius thinking that they can park there because they are semi EV but not a plug IN!

Is this aloud because it says ev only... Has this happened to any of u guys?

Also what I found really stupid at the IKEA they had four reserved spots and 2 chargers whats the point!

    Sorry no photo:cry:

Yes but I have 24 ft, J1772 extension cable. So I find the closest open parking space and don't worry about it.

The four reserved spots may be so that people park next to a car that is fully charged, unplug it and start charging.
I don’t see that often, but have on occasion.

Its a plug-in hybrid so we can go to the ev charging points

I see what you mean but,
couldn't they just put four chargers I mean they are IKEA.

If they put four chargers in, why not just put eight spaces?

Cheaper to only run 80 amps to the parking lot than 160 amps, after all, and just because they're a huge company doesn't mean they don't want to optimize cost. (I mean, if it were me, I'd say to make every space everywhere have charging, with load balancing as needed, but...)

Technically speaking according to the SAE folks, a Prius is a HEV: Hybrid Electric Vehicle.

My unofficial ranking of charger spot disrespect (worst to least):

    Diesel truck
    Any ICE vehicle
    HEV (Prius)
    Any Plug-in charged and squatting
    Short range Plug-in (PIP)
    Mid-range Plug-in (Energi, Prime)
    Long-range Plug-in (volt)
    BEV with extender (i3 w/rex)
BEV with private charging infrastructure (Tesla)
    BEV Long Range (Bolt)
    BEV Short Range (Leaf, iMev)

My suggestion remains to place charging spots in the least desirable parking lot locations. That should eliminate the top 3 offenders who simply want a good parking spot.

Did you look real close to be sure that there aren't two pedestals that are equipped with 2 chargers each ??

And to the original question, the people providing the charging stations make the rules.
In most places, there ARE NO rules that are enforced.

Consider my point though: a plug-in hybrid, is not a pure EV, and really doesn't need to charge at a free public charge station. On the other hand, electrical-only vehicle, that charge point might be make it or break it.

the charging stations are usually put in as some type of corporate 'green' policy. they don't care what kind of electric vehicle you have, and they have no plans to enforce anything. it's not handicap parking.

I'm not sure. I looked up "ikea electric vehicle charging stations", see if they had some policy. First hit, UK-centric I think:

    Electric vehicle charging - IKEA

makes repeated mention of "electric vehicle", but doesn't go into more depth.

My take: an electric vehicle is a vehicle solely propelled electrically. And, these are vehicles that need public charging station. A plug-in hybrid, the only need is to boost your mpg on Fuelly.

I'm sorry for being "trollish" as well, but that's my take.

With present technology, the whole concept of public charging stations seems fundamentally flawed: how long would it take a (pure) electric vehicle to get a "practical" amount of charge, comparing to the typical time you'd spend at Ikea. And if electric vehicles catch on, what's going to happen, more bickering and mayhem?

At our nearby Port Moody city hall, there's underground parking, and there's several city-owned, pure electric vehicles that are often parked at the few stations they have. I don't believe they're being offered to the publics, it's basically their chargers, their vehicles, and their electrical bill. It's a model that works.

While that is honestly really really sad, Hope my province does not make that law. :(

Province I'm sorry but its not a state it is a province

Yep, very closely we were talking to a chevy volt owner they were getting mad too.

In Canada, I would infer that we would be able too because they give us a rebate, Chargepoint, Flo, Sun Country (IKEA) allows us to use their chargers through the app because you have to input your car etcetera

Ah, like an adaptation of the classical "hierarchy of needs"...

Regardless of what kind of electric vehicle one drives, it's only human to need a outlet.

I know. I am originally from Toronto.
I did not know if the law was federal or provincial.
@Mendel Leisk being in BC would assume Ontario as a province, I assume.
