I don't remember the source, and it even could have been on the 2012 PIP. I just said "I thoght that my Prius had that feature". I recall reading that if you press firmly on the brakes when stopped, this would engage the "lock" feature til you pressed the accelerator. Hey I could be full of Alzheimer's Juice; that's just something I remember reading!! I'm going to try it today. If the car ain't got it, I humbly apologize!!

It is called "hill start assist" and works for 2 seconds on downhill inclines to give you time to move your foot from brake to accelerator without the car rolling backward.

I could say the same thing about my local Toyota dealer. The dealers are usually the issue, not the vehicle manufacturer. Elon Musk agrees.

On the money! It took me 5 tries here in crowded, dealer-rich Socal to find an "adequate" Toyota dealer!! But, sorry to say, it's the same problem I faced trying to find a good dentist, cardiologist, and GP!!
You have to work hard to find good people for support. My IT business has survived 32 years because I care about and take care of my clients. Word of mouth is the last bastion of good people!

Mr. Prodigyplace, does the Prime have this "hill start feature" or am I blowing Alzheimer Smoke?!

  7. Oh it's got it, there are two uphills to traffic lights around he'ah. Prime won't budge an inch, but my Prius c rolled. (I assume that California has mountains to test it on...)

    Owner's manual - page 477:

    ◆ Hill-start assist control
Helps to reduce the backward movement of the vehicle when starting on an uphill

In Gen 3 you had to press the brake to the floor and then the hill assist would activate - in the Prime it's automatic, when the car senses it's on a hill the feature activates itself.

There is an automatic brake hold of a couple of seconds. In normal traffic, dynamic cruise control will hold the car stationary.

Yeah, our 06 got a replacement battery, maybe 2 years back now, it's our son's (headache) now. The few times I've driven it of late, it's recalibrating just like it used to before the battery swap.

The car in general is irritating: noisy/creaky, touchy gas. Oh well, drive it till it drops...
