You can type in your search term at the bottom of the page under the posts, and it searches just that thread. There were only a couple observatories listed, none of which matched your picture.

Just a clicker to show I've finally edited my answer post to include a new landmark.

I was here a few weeks ago.
There will be a huge number of people visiting this city in the near future.
It is located very close to another site earlier in this thread.
I'm off to play a concert, back l8r. But I really don't think this well travelled group will need more hints.

It's Beijing, China, where the 2008 Olympics will be held.

Even though the resolution on this is pretty crappy, this shouldn't be an obstacle. You should be able to find this one with very little effort.

Duh, another like 0 N O W, however, this almost worked for me but not quite. (My window was the wrong size.)

To find it, type "United States" in maps.google.com and keep zooming in. In my case I was slightly off. Here is the link http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...p;z=12&om=1

Give me a chance to find something.

    Found it. Try this.

Qu'est-ce que c'est le nom du bateau?

Yes the last batch gave it away, but it was hard to come up with additional clues that didn't give it away but that were informative. Google is just too good of a search engine.

(And I guess I and others were getting tired. )

Based on the images from this link http://www.galenfrysinger.com/summer_palac...ijing_china.htm , it must be the summer palace?

You know the inverted glass pyramid of the Louvre? The one mentioned in the Da Vinci Code as the mysterious resting place of Mary Magdalene?

It's actually smack in the middle of an upscale shopping mall at the east end of the museum! My wife and I got a kick out of that.

Toups, are you asking the name of the boat? My French is a little rusty.

The name of the bridge is Pont Neuf, and you can find Notre Dame on the east end of the island!

    Le petit Titanic. :p

<strike>The next landmark is a little blurry, but the trailhead is clearly marked (if you remember where we are).</strike>

    IMAGE REMOVED - CANCELLED.

A new, more fair landmark has been put up a few posts down.

The cancelled landmark was too vague in many respects - basically it was what you got when seeking "Hybrid" with the map centered anywhere east of the Americas and west of the Orient (already a requirement that was too ambiguous to be fair). That resulted not in any flags, but in two address references on the left hand screen, only one of which produced a very blurry map image, and that was the landmark. The word "Hybrid" appears as one of the display style buttons at upper right (that was my "clearly marked trailhead") - but here it is 14 or so hours later and not a nibble so I've replaced that abomination of a "landmark" with something more in keeping with the spirit of the game (and hopefully actually guessable).

    Apologies for the inconvenience.

Yes I was asking the name of the boat. (I know even less french, but my wife translated for me!) The site is so rich in landmarks, I figured there was a chance that a picture of the boat might last a few seconds. I was right, it only took a few seconds.

I was afraid that the "find it with very little effort" clue was too specific. Oh well.

    Now THIS is a landmark.

No clues as yet - it might be recognizable as is ---

Well I am drawing a blank. There are so many features but I can not figure out what it is used for. Time for a hint? or not yet?

I was beginning to wonder where everybody went.

Hint #1: Alfred Nobel figures very prominently here. Just for awhile.

Hint #2: So does a celebrity of the 1939 New York World's Fair, forever.

Hello? (man it's quiet in here)

Anybody around? (wipes dust off an unopened atlas)

Well, just in case, here're some more clues:

Hint #3: Ted and Tom, among others, are nearby.

Hint #4: $300 will get you within arm's reach.

Hint #5: The name of the place is some peoples' opinion of it.

    I vote "present."

So it's a surface mine in Montana with bituminous as one of its components. Not interesting enough for me to confirm my assumptions.

That guess completely misses on all cylinders: what, where and what for. You're absolutely right, though, random, unknown landmarks are totally uninteresting. This one is neither random nor unknown.

Clue #6: The parking lot is much too large for just the employees.
