I second the vote for some more clues. I thought I was warm, but have gotten nowhere.

Try this one out. It's a bit thin on detail so here're some helpful clues:

Its name would be a poor marketing choice, yet its name adds to its attraction.

The same can be said for the surrounding region.

Rain generally falls farther here than elsewhere.

Badwater in Death Valley National Monument. Too good of clue.

No clues, somebody'll know it right off.

This isn't an official entry because, as a landmark, this has neither fame nor notoriety - it's probably not even noticed. And I don't think it's unique - there are probably similar regions around the world. But I thought the water traces here were very striking, worth a show, even if useless as a game entry. It's interesting that there are visually attractive landscapes that can ONLY be seen from many miles up.

I won't say where this is in case someone wants to try to find it - I stumbled across it looking for something else. I will say the full breadth of this covers several thousand square miles - what you're seeing here covers very nearly the entire geographic feature it occupies (which does have a name, a well known name).

Back on the test track:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Toups @ Aug 11 2007, 05:43 PM) </div>
It is not the Hurricane Mesa test track. It also doesn't appear to be the 100 million dollar test track GM is building at the Yuma proving grounds - though the Yuma proving grounds encompass a lot of desert, so I'm not positive I covered every inch...

Yep. It's the Hollywood Sign, in Hollywood, CA.

This famous piece of engineering should be easy for PriusChat members:

The engineering term for that structure is "basket handle tied arch bridge" but I'll be gadzooked if I can find THAT bridge anywhere in Google or Wikipedia. It's not very long - probably why it's absent - but if the clue says "famous piece of engineering" it oughta be in Google somewhere. Hmmmm.

Even with the additional "clues" I still can't find that bridge. Gonna have to leave it to someone else to find.

Time for a few hints: A president, a Red Sox/Cincinnati Reds pitcher, an author, a playwright, a singer/songwriter, an American fashion designer, among many others either were natives or spent time here.

Too easy, got it first guess with all those clues...
Key West, FL

This one will need some clues as the detail is terrible.
A giant Irish location.

Looks like Key West to me. Now I get another one, and I can be really obscure this time. Just kidding. :)

Sorry about yesterday. We were halfway to the campsite when I said 'Uh oh. I'm in trouble." So , more clues?

edit: Evan beat me by a minute. Your choice - another of yours or back to mine?

OK, all together now. Here's the previously unsolved image again.
[attachmentid=10601]
There's an event held here every year specifically because of the topography. The line in question is a highway that is very straight and very flat. There's a clue to the name of the surrounding area in the formation to the right. There's a town just off-image to the lower right, whose name I alluded to with my 'struggle' comment earlier.

Sorry, I really hadn't intended this to be so difficult. After all those random ghost airstrips, I thought 'too obscure' would require more effort.
