    You're on the right track.
I'll post a wider view in about an hour if nobody's getting close, but let's let the morning people have a shot first.

Are you guys still looking, waiting for another clue, or do I just need to give some of our regulars a little more time? I think there's more than enough in the second/wide shot that you should be able to figure it out.

Ok, I'm getting ready to leave soon and may not be online for about 12 hours...so another clue.
The track isn't a test track, it's a training track. And what do you think those big rectangular areas at the top right of the wider picture could be. And who would need them both on the same campus?

That turned the trick - too many good clues. It's the FBI Training Facility at Quantico VA, as featured briefly in Silence of the Lambs

I'm too busy to hunt down another landmark --- the field's open ---

Y'know, maybe we should be looking at names synonomous with lawyers & politicians --- Barrister Canyon, Senate Valley, President Gorge, etc. :p

Well I found a list of mountain passes at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mountain_passes but didn't recognize anything as especially slippery. Maybe someone else can mine something here.

    The Khyber Pass!

Here is a new one. How about singing politicians?

That's terrific; but what on earth is "slippery" about "Khyber" or "Pass"? I've had no luck with a few Urdu-English dictionaries to unravel that. Even phonetically, "Kaiber" does not suggest anything to my ear, let alone something slippery. What am I missing?

Not to those who remember to take off their "stupid-hats" before playing - my own is such a fixture I keep forgetting I even have it on! :p Thanks for the clarification anyway. :)

You must mean "singing" as in "Let The Sunshine In" on my opponent's evil deeds ---

This is based on a game I made acquaintance with more than 25 years ago, and never saw again (because of its difficulty I think). The idea is simple - Tic Tac Toe simple. This is PIC Tac Toe - nine pictures, with eight distinct themes, three themes in the rows, three themes in the columns, and two themes in the diagonals.

To prevent this version from being impossible, (it was nearly impossible just to create the damn thing, let alone hand it off for solving without assistance), here are a pile of helpful clues:

    1. The eight themes are: Volcano, Airport, City, Monument, Desert, Island, Lake, and Shoreline (or Coast).

    2. The three themes in the Bottom Left picture are Volcano, City, Island.

    3. Monument is one of the four themes in the Center picture, by stretching the meaning of monument somewhat. There's a famous, true anecdote about that "monument" that's pretty funny. The Airport in the middle is a theme for that picture also - even if it isn't much of an airport.

    4. All of the pictures are in their natural orientations - nothing has been rotated or mirrored or otherwise obfuscated.

That should be enough to get you started - for better detail if needed just request which picture needs enlargement & I'll put it up separately - I didn't want to swamp Danny's server with the nine full size images all at once.

Standard rule - find the matching image in Googlemaps & provide its name - and which theme(s) it is.

You can group solve this (in fact, that may be the best way to tackle it, putting up the answers piecemeal as you work them out) - but if one of you solves the entire thing solo - Bravo if you do!

    5. The name of the place in the picture at top left is Puerto Morro Redondo. I include this because beyond its relevance to the puzzle, it is absolutely undistinguished and even knowing its themes it would still be difficult to find, because the world is full of similar undistinguished places sharing those three themes.

All the other 8 places are famous in varying degrees, some extremely famous, others famous in certain circles, but such circles I think are pretty wide.

I'll start off with the easy one, the top center, http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...p;z=16&om=1

the Great Pyramids of Giza. My guess is that would be a monument and a desert.
