Hmm, I was thinking Devil's Island off of French Guiana (where Papillon was imprisoned), but Google maps refused to give me that kind of resolution there.

Oh, that gives it away. That's Angel Island, North of Alcatraz.

Angel Island and Alcatraz are separate islands, although right next to each other in San Francisco Bay. Alcatraz is entirely covered with the Federal Penitentiary structures (and a lot of seagull droppings); Angel Island is a larger island (3 to 4 times bigger than "The Rock") and is a State Park and/or National Preserve. Both islands were long ago military outposts, forts, brigs, etc., but while the buildings remain, the military abandoned tenancy aeons ago.

Alcatraz and Angel Island are two separate places. Angel Island is many many times the size of Alcatraz and much closer to the Marin side, near Belvedere (very very expensive homes) and Tiburon. Alcatraz is tiny compared to Angel Island and much closer to San Francisco.

I didnt realize the 2nd pic would make it that easy.Not Alcatraz btw.
