I was thinking more like Monument Valley, except the outcroppings aren't high enough. The brushy area on the left (west) is obviously a hill, but in this area, it takes some pretty unique geography to warrant a couple pull-offs from the road, and it's not obvious from above what that is. Painted rocks? Petroglyphs? Not a canyon. Large areas of Arizona are at too low of resolution for this, but that still didn't narrow it down enough, unless I really spent some time on this.
(Why did Evan capitalize GOD? Is that another hint? A search with that of the map didn't help me.)

I didn't recognize it, but the items in the four corners of that square green field gave me a clue, and my first guess turned out to be correct.

Finally, a location and clue I understand - Bull Run, near Manassas, Virginia. If I recall correctly, this was one of the first battles of the Civil War, and civilians came from nearby Wash. D.C. to watch the spectacle, as they thought it would be an easy rout of the upstart southerners.
