My wife drove the car since 2010. Never had problems. I began driving it about 3 months ago. I love this car with a passion! Best freaking car I have ever owned period. Here is the old battery pack awaiting return. Parts guy said bring your old and I won’t charge you the core.

Was this the same dealership that initially quoted $3600? Difference due to full-service vs cash-and-carry?

Your first pic of the busbars and nuts is a horror story. I guess you have to pull the battery right out of the car in order to have a look?

Yes, same dealership. $3600 out the door. So I saved money doing it myself obviously. When you buy the OEM pack, you must remove all of the components since it only has the batteries, main wires, etc. When I got to the parts dept, we opened the black crate and swapped units. I had to remove the vent hoses and the plastic end piece that allows the insertion of the vent to car. the new one didn't have them on. Wise of me to take tools and check. Also saw same crates waiting pick up of bad packs in storage. I counted 12! So this must be an issue for the 2010 Prius.

How many miles on your Prius?

That’d be the next thing on my list if not done yet:).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Are they going to basically recycled those old packs by manufacturing new ones from them? Just curious

at 100k or so, the gen 3's start to clog up. if you don't clean it out, it puts pressure on the head gasket, sometimes causing it to blow. consensus here is to clean it before it becomes an expensive issue.

we even have members adding oil catch cans to prevent it from clogging.

Fair bit of out-in-the-open $'s just sitting there. Do they at least padlock a gate at night?

It’s starts to clog before 100k. It justs starts restricting flow around then;).

Installing the catch can and performing a front to back cleanse will get you piece of mind once you see what the cooler innerds look like .

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

That IS a good price. May I ask what dealer? I'm no where near needing one, but there are lots of others here in FL who may or may not be close to this dealership.

From what I've read, they do get recycled, but not by just popping them into new packs. The various materials might get re-used in all sorts of things.

Autonation Toyota at Weston. Ask for Thomas, super cool guy and actually the whole parts department are spectacular with no bulshit. These guys are great. I even replaced the 12 volt battery. I had the OEM factory 12 volt!

My bet is they aren’t Gen3’s or 2010’s though.

The Gen2’s hv batteries must be falling out or dropping like flies in the heat, sun and humidity:eek:.

It is stacked like cord wood though.

That’s where I did our egr circuit the first time (122 k miles actually):).

I’d start looking up the egr circuit videos and prepare as you’ll be good on the battery side for another 8 years;).

May as well make the engine last as long as the battery(y).
