We got rear ended yesterday by a Ford Taurus on 71 northbound in Pomona, CA. I was driving a 2010 Prius with wife and 3 month son in the backseat. Both left side air bags were deployed. Thank God that everyone's okay. Wife got an x-ray on her lower back and baby had a CT scan just to be sure that he's okay. The car seat with base attached to seat hook and seat belt protected them from more injuries.

    OUCH!!!
So glad to hear that initial reports are that everyone's fine. Make sure you get all health reports before signing anything. Also, since some injuries and strains might not show themselves until a couple days later, hold off on signing anything.

Again, I'm glad to hear that you're all okay. But sorry to see what happened to your car.

Wow glad your ok. You know when you get hit hard from behind when the airbags deploy.

Lots of people here on pc have been rear ended myself included.

I was at a light and watched helplessly as a car flew up from behind and nailed me. I could see as he was approaching he was looking down. 60 year old guy texting.

I wasn't hit half as hard as you as still ended up having back surgery.

When the insurance companies call for the "recorded statement" and they will very very soon say nothing. Say see my attorney.

I got a good attorney and I suggest you do the same. I felt fine for days than all of a sudden I was in bad pain.

It takes a while for things to happen to your body after a wreck.
And you got hit pretty hard there.

    No statement

    Get an attorney.

Good luck to you and your family.

I'm glad you and your family appear to be OK!

THAT'S the important thing...you can get another Prius.
I hope that you don't have any post accident issues, other than trying to decide what color/type the replacement vehicle will be!

You've probably already got a kitchen tabletop full of business cards from your local attorneys - and so I'll leave the legal pontifications up to them.
Get a good rental, enjoy the Christmas season, and worry about the car thing next year! :D

    GOOD LUCK!
    Merry Christmas!!

Glad to hear everyone's ok! Interesting that the airbags deployed (particularly the side ones).. that must've been one heck of a shock to set of the sensor.

Don't worry about the car too much and enjoy Christmas and the holidays! Like ETC (SS) said, worry about it next year =).

Glad to hear nobody was injured. In the end, that's the only part that matters. It's a bummer though.

Good luck with the repairs, etc. It will all be a memory soon enough!

    Ahh ok that explains it.

Really? I guess they want you to drive a Roadmaster? If the restraints do what they're designed to do, the occupants will be safe.

Glad there were no serious injuries and I think we can thank both vehicles with their inbuilt safety features for that. Not just seat-belts, child restraints and airbags but 2 cars designed to absorb impact energy in the front and rear but remain rigid in the passenger compartment.

Most of the mass in the Prius in in the front with heavy sub-frame and drive train components concentrated in the front so the force of a rear impact puts tremendous strain on the passenger cage. Even after a big hit the doors still open proving Toyota did a good job engineering a strong occupant cage. Seat-belts, airbags and child restraints work in conjunction with this strong cage to secure the safety of occupants in this type of collision. The Ford has also performed as designed, safety catches on the hinges prevented the bonnet from entering the passenger compartment while the front crush zone absorbed considerable energy. The windscreen is intact and the passenger cage appears uncompromised.

2 well designed vehicles doing as designed in a crash. Thank ****** for vehicle safety standards and safety ratings.

(****** varies depending where you live)

It is sad when so many people believe that a midsize passenger car is not safe enough to carry a baby, yet many of them drive their babies around in vehicles that are exempted from passenger car safety standards.

Yep. It's sad that a big reason people do buy large gas guzzling suv's trucks is why you said. Alot of them are saying thier lives are way more important than everyone elses so they will have a 2,000lbs advantage in a crash, so because of that they will be likely to have less chance of getting hurt/killed in a accident, but will have alot bigger chance of killing/hurting other people and they have no second thoughts about this.
