today I said hi to a couple of guys at a pit stop driving a Prius and a Prius v. (In Australia).

They pretty much ignored me once they saw I drove a Prius c. the first thing one of the guys asked me was , oh can't you afford a real Prius?
ive also heard by another driver "Try hard Prius " sometimes when I look over At another Prius driver I can see them look at me in disgust like they are better then me.

I'm in Australia, and it really annoys me at this "model snobbery"

Have you ever noticed or been put down or shuned upon by other Prius owners?

Well here in US of A Prius isn't real car, so being not real Prius makes it more real car? ;). IMHO it must be regional because in US prius is still dissed down in some areas, but for the most places with high concentration like SoCal, Washington DC, NYC it is just another car. But bigotry comes in many shapes; don't let it get under your skin.

The C is just as much a Prius. Great car value.

If it says Prius on the back, it's a Prius.

Nope, I can say I haven't run into that attitude.
I think you specifically ran into two jerks.

It's the " Prius Family " and we pretty much take the Godfather attitude,- you never go against the family.

My previous vehicle was a Honda Fit, and I kind of just wanted a bigger change, was the primary reason I bought a standard Prius. But had I not owned a Fit before, I probably would of bought a Prius c. I honestly like smaller vehicles.

There are people who don't like Prius PERIOD. But I don't sense a lot of model to model snobbery in the USA.

This is odd, what makes a 'real' Prius?
If you were a Gen 1 owner, the Gen 2 was way less Priusy, in fact the Prius C may be the most Priusy model still made.
If you were a Gen 2 owner, the Gen 3 was way less Priusy, in fact the Prius C may be the most Priusy model still made.
If you were a Gen 3 owner, the Prius C may have a less Priusy user interface. (big stick shift) and Prius v owners are WAY less Priusy than any other model (No split rear window and 42 MPG EPA, sacrilege!)

I really prefer to think of all Prius owners, no matter what the suffix, as well as owners of other "green" vehicles such as the Leaf, Volt, etc. as caring a little more about the greater good. I'd like to see more such people, not fewer.

In California, it seems like a regular car except they tend drive slower than other cars and hug the right lane (it is the left lane in Australia, which is the wrong side of the road -- haha)

The way I look at it?

If The Prius c could survive "The Game Of Life" advertising campaign that Toyota unceremoniously attached to it?

Then it might just be the toughest, most real Prius of them all.

May be it is like the way Apple iPhones users are with the iPhone 5c.

I know the regular iPhone users view the iPhone 5c users as low on the totem pole and considers the "c" model as "cheap" and not a real iPhone.

This reminds me of when I was taking flying lessons way back when. As a student pilot you're at the very bottom of the pilot hierarchy, but you can still take pride in that fact that most people aren't pilots.

We all want something to set us apart. But I'm really not convinced how useful acquired goods are as a measure of a person's worthiness.

Never came across that before. (And certainly a first on PriusChat). Just chalk it up to jealousy (that there's a cheaper Prius c available). Funny thing is, it gets better fuel economy than the Prius in the city.

My niceness varies by product line.
GM BAS hybrid - just decals, no hybrid
(Many vendors) Two mode hybrid, often better than it appears, too few people can do math.
Subaru and Nissan sold hybrids based on the technology of others.
Honda's Integrated Motor Assist is a real hybrid, just not my favorite.
Ford independently developed a real hybrid that resembles the Hybrid Synergy Drive
Toyota Synergy Drive, real hybrid, some plug in
Chevy Volt, just a plug in hybrid
Nissan Leaf, Tesla are real Electric Vehicles.

I think the most important aspect is that you use a vehicle that is appropriate for your use. The most ridiculous is a Hummer in a crowded urban environment. A real Hummer is appropriate in a war zone, but just a burden most other places. If a C does the job for you, that's all that counts. If Toyota put a Prius label on it, then it's a Prius.

When I bought my 2006 Prius, it was in such hot demand that I couldn't even find a salesman who would call me back. I ended up traveling 150 miles to a dealer in an agricultural area of California who was stuck with a top end model that he couldn't sell in his market. Two areas 150 miles apart in California and a totally different car culture. I just take it as confirmation that I'm smarter than those knuckle draggers...:p
