Yea... They don't sell seperate components on control boards, only the whole control board (sometimes), which often costs as much a new machine, not for them of course, just for us. It's a problem with advancements in circuit board miniaturization.

Warranty Transfer for Project Lithium was similar... Jack was dealing with customers that didn't know anything about his battery pack and never decided themselves to buy the pack, which is usually where the learning process happens. So after walking down that road a bunch of times, mostly with people who didn't have anything wrong with their battery pack, he decided it wasn't worth the amount of time it was taking to handle warranty transfers anymore.

Do note that "GE" doesn't make home appliances anymore. It sold off its home appliance division in 2016, most to Haier, a Chinese multinational home appliances and consumer electronics company. It has the right to use the "GE Appliances" trade name for several more decades. Haier makes home appliances under 7 global brand names.

A private equity firm owns a small slice of it too.

This is just one of very many common old brand names that is now owned by a completely different company than the one that built up the original brand familiarity and reputation.

Yeah, Kenmore is I think now part of LG. Not that "Kenmore" ever made anything itself, it was usually just rebadged Whirlpool or some other major player. The thing was, mostly Kenmore wasn't rebadged junk. Our fridge, washer, and dryer are all Kenmore and are 28 years old and still ticking along. Current GE appliances, on the other hand...

Nowadays before buying anything one must now determine who the actual manufacturer is. Sometimes it works out - I bought a used Westinghouse TV several years ago knowing full well that it was just a word on the case and not anything to do with the Westinghouse of old. Some Chinese company makes the brand now, but I'm not sure about this model though, as an IR remote configured for our Samsung set works with it. In any case, this TV still works well, so whoever made it did an OK job.

This language is super slimy. To paraphrase a gnomic 80s icon, denounce or denounce not, do not threaten.
