Unless that's their price including taxes & labor, than they're over-charging and you need to search for another Toyota Stealership to do business with...

What’s up man, I just pulled the trigger because of the lifetime warranty. It’s transferable once. So, if I decide to sell the vehicle I can charge a bit more and recoupe some of the cost from the green bean. How was your battery performing before you replaced it? I was getting 47-48 now I’m down to 43mpg. It’s a 2009 so it’s almost 12 years old at this point. I’m just worried that I’m not going to see any performance increase

That is "the luck of the draw" It depends on how well the quickly repaired (with used parts) pack performs.

If the experience of the majority here is true, the car WILL be undependable and could fail without warning. You can claim the warranty, but it is still extremely inconvenient, at least.

How was it bad? I actually had a good experience with the installation today. They were here for 45 minutes in a two man team. When the guy took it for a test ride he came back and said my abs and vcs light went on and threw codes u0124, 25 and 26. However, when I took a test ride with the guy the codes no longer showed. I can honestly say that so far after the 20 minute test ride that I was getting 65-85 mpg doing 25-30mph on the inner city streets. It took a lot longer to charge than my old battery however the discharge rate was just as long if not a little shorter. It felt like a brand new battery. Time will tell. I will keep you all updated

Did they check to make sure your battery cooling fan was clean and your 12v had a good charge?

    Hey,

no they didn’t. I was just thinking today that they should have done that to make the service a little better. However, I do t believe I seen anything in their literature that said they were supposed to do that. I just tried to go and run the Dr. Prius app on it but it keeps disconnecting in the middle of the life expectancy test. I emailed support and am waiting for a reply. Here is a snap shot of what the battery looks like a day after installation from green bean.

However, I am amazed at the increased gas mileage so far. I was averaging 42.5mpg (5 months without resetting gauge) in the inner city. The histogram would usually top out in the range of 28-45 regularly. However, after the 20 min test ride at 30 mph the three histogram bars were 45, 65, and about 88 mpg. Drastic improvement. Also, the time it takes to charge the battery is almost doubled or tripled. That also means that the time to discharge the battery is the same. I drove approximately 1.5-2.0 miles back to my house on almost all electric and still had 3-4 blue bars remaining. I’m satisfied so far

I've seen those battery temps on my failing pack.

Its literally like 100 degrees out today interior of car read 102 and I just tried to run the Prius app test on it 3 times to no avail. I think you can chalk it up to that.

I checked my Yellow Top, cold, from the jump points, and reading was 12.8V. YT is 2 years old.

    George,

Do you know how to read the green and blue histogram? What should a healthy battery look like?

On days like those 100+ day outside, I run Hybrid Assistant to control the fan, keep temps at cabin ambient inside.

I think I’m gonna have to change mine soon. I think it’s the original battery from back in 2009. Haha. Where’s the best deal for them these days?

I wish I did. Tried to correlate resistance to the voltage but snapshots do not show consistent pattern. What was consistent was the higher temps, anything above 125 took a long time to cool.

Here's the one I recommend, it's 55amp-hours and $150 dollars less then the 38amp hour ones auto parts stores sell for Prius: 12 Volt (12V) 55 Amp (55Ah) VRLA AGM Sealed Lead Acid Battery 55 AMPS HIGH CAP | eBay

You do need to buy some big washers and longer bolts for the terminals to mount properly though....

Will definitely check it out. Thank you.
Have you noticed any increase in performance through installing a new 12v? I always noticed that my cigarette charger can’t charge worth a dam. I was wondering if the low voltage in the battery had anything to do with that.
