I blocked 75% of my lower grill last night and the outside temp readings this morning showed a 9-10 degree difference from the weather application on my phone. (45 degrees vs. 55 degree reading from the car reading). The drive was county and city driving; 45-55 mph for 8 miles, traffic for 8 miles. It's no problem for me, but I guess it does show that it was warmer on the hood with the partial blocking. Any comments?

Yes. The sensor is just behind the lower grill, slightly off to the left. Without the air passing directly over it, it will register warmer at least for a while. With my 16 mile commute, it generally reads the same at the end.
