My Prius didn't come with the homelink Mirror and I could really use it.

Has anyone installed one? Any tips on where to get it, or how to install it?

I have the solar sunroof option if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for any info.

I had it installed in my car, I dont have the sunroof. It is easy and I think if you do some searching you can find some good info.

If you do a search on PC for 'auto dimming mirror'- you'll see the best tip for that mirror is "don't waste your time, effort and money on it".
It generally performs very poorly in the Prius due to the car's split rear window design.

I had the auto dimming rear view mirror installed on my 2010 with the sunroof. It included Homelink which was easy to program for my garage door opener.
I have a 2013 model IV with the sunroof and the same mirror that I paid for extra as an accessory, is included with this model.
I would absolutely agree with ny_rob, the auto dimming "feature" does not perform very well. Fortunately, when cars are behind you the headlights are most often blocked by the "spoiler" of the Prius.
Note: I'm a sucker for gadgets (that's one of the reasons I like this forum!).

Perfect! This is exactly what I was looking for. I don't care about the dimming feature, just the home link an so my search somehow missed this.

    Thanks for the help!

You'll care about it at night when there's a pickup or SUV behind you and you can't dim the mirror!

Is it really that bad on a Gen III? It seriously works perfect in my Gen II.

My mirror has a manual day/nite switch like all cars do...it works fine for that.

Actually one of the things I hate about the prius is that split spoiler...the lights bobbing into and out of my mirror over bumps distracts me. lol

With the auto dimming mirror, you won't have to worry about that. The lights will be dim and won't bother you anymore.

Yes- and the auto dimming mirror with Homelink on the GenIII Five has no manual flip up/down lever like standard rear view mirrors, so if it doesn't auto-adjust- you have to relocate the whole mirror up- which doesn't really do much other than stop the mirror from reflecting anything from behind you.

I made a DIY Homelink. I placed a Sears Craftsman handheld garage door opener in the worthless sunglass holder and it works just fine.

It doesn't have a manual flip lever because it is not "supposed" to need one (because its supposedly "auto" dimming). That's crazy that the Gen 3 has that problem (of not auto dimming). Its too bad.

I have to agree with everyone else about the auto dimming. I use it more for the homelink. If my Prii didnt already have it i would have retroed it in just like i did on my gen2. That being said......the auto dimming hasn't bothered me since i have tinted windows. :D

Ok, gen II guy, please stop giving irrelevant advice to this poor guy. I installed one my '10, homelink works wonderfully, auto dimming RARELY works only IF a particular car's headlight is angled perfectly at the mirror. On my commute home each evening, about 25 miles, I see the mirror dim for a few seconds tops, and the rest of the time I'm blinded by ALL headlights in full traffic. There is no flipping a switch with the auto dimming mirror. All you can do is endure the pain. It may work well in your gen II, but not in the gen III, unfortunately. But, if this guy only wants it for homelink, best wishes to him and I hope that he never drives at night since he will never be able to flip anything nor get the auto dimming to work without putting a flashlight directly up on the sensor.

FWIW, the OEM auto-dimming mirror w/Homelink that came w/my Gen 2 works fine for me.

I'd say that pretty sums up almost perfectly my unpleasant experience with the (non)Auto-dimming mirror in my GenIII Five during the six months I owned the Five. I was very happy to learn the base PIP didn't have that POS mirror.

Lmao, a man can express his feelings on this forum, can he not? Offended? I spoke truthfully, he was not contributing and he did not know it. But you are simply being who you are I suppose...
