I have a wooded lot in suburbia and i KNOW there are mice present. I JUST brought my new (to me) 2016 Prius home yesterday, and joined Priuschat mainly to ask about what people have liked/used as an all-weather cover. I stumbled onto the "mouse problem" threads and now i'm wondering if i should cover my Prius at all (and give the little buggers an ever greater reason to try to get inside my car).

Anyone with a Gen 4 have this problem, or did the redesign address it?

Have a look at yours. Is the engine air filter snorkel sitll open at the end (no mesh or whatever)? Is the cabin air intake still similarly open? How about the hybrid battery exhaust air ports?

That's just for cabin incursions. It's pretty much impossible to protect under-the-hood, or any exposed wiring.

i don't recall any vermin reports yet. might have missed them though. i don't recall anyone including toyota reporting better sealing of mouse entry points. might have missed that as well.

I would suggest to be proactive, not wait till you see the droppings, shells and nesting material. ;)

oh, i already put peppermint essential oil drops under my hood and soaked Q-tips under the storage compartment and a few inside the cab. likely i'lll add balsam fir as well. what i wanted to know is if the extensive interior re-design they apparently did on the Gen 4 actually fixed some of (or all of, but i'm not that optimistic) entry points. i haven't looked yet, since i JUST got the car, but i figured i'd ask here in the Gen 4 forum.

Shiba Inu did the trick for us, for a small rat that was dividing it's time between under the hood and various spots around the garage.

i have a cat, but i'm unlikely to store her in my car.

i DID brush her and also stick some of her fur in a couple spots.

where is that? (asks the person who has had Honda Civics for 15 years previously)

edited: ah, ok, Google has it behind the glove box? so under the hood/in the hood compartment. *sigh*

huh, ok, so that incursion could be fixed with the mouse-proofing of the cabin that has been posting in other threads? i'm just trying to figure out if my 2016 likely needs it/has those incursion points still, and if i should plan to do this fix. looks like maybe i should. is there a way i can search for the post you saw? i tried searching the Gen 4 forums for "mouse" but didn't get a hit.

maybe try searching for "rodent"? I do recall one which had under-bonnet damage but can't recall the outcome.
