I let an oil shop replace my headlight and they put it incorrectly and melted the plastic which the bulb clips to.

I've searched high and low for a replacement part but can't find anything but a full assembly replacement, anyone have any ideas? It's the center light brown circle in this pic.

I called the parts department at my local dealer and they said they don't sell it individually, but that seems odd.

Best bet would be a junkyard, ideally from a damaged headlight for the best price.

That would be the shops problem, they damaged it, let them fix it, at their expense.
Then never go back to them. WHY would they need to heat/melt anything???

the bulb and or assembly wasn’t seated correctly which caused the melt.

Could be the use of a high powered led.

the reality is i didn't notice until the bulb went out a year later, said **** and looked for a replacement.

didn't find anything at the time and lived with it

now that the driver's side is out, i'm looking to see if I can also fix that issue now.

so i'm just going to have to eat the cost unfortunetly.

I'm just astounded that this isn't a readily available part, as it just sits inside the rubber gasket (which is a replaceable part).

I found an old full used headlight assembly for 75 bucks on ebay, but I was just hoping it'd be a cheaper fix.

The bulbs do burn out. Is it halogen or hid?

halogen. oh i know they burn out. The melted one is still operational, but it can't be pointed straight so it's good enough to not get a ticket for no headlight but really doesn't illuminate a large perimeter around the car. My "good" light just went out this week, so while I'm replacing them I'm going to fix it. I'm wondering if I can use a heat proof glue to just keep it upright? I'll probably just order the 75 buck part and be done with it.

It sort of looks like the bulb is not in there correctly. When installing a bulb, remove the cable, properly rotate the bulb in and then snap the cable on. Its a precise and tight fit. I don't think glue is a good idea. Most won't hold and an epoxy means you will never change that bulb again.

Well, the shop didn't install it correctly, they are still responsible.
LED's are not supposed to get hot. And they don't draw much power. That is why everything is
moving toward them. So HOW can it melt anything???

Unfortunately, the only solution is to change the entire headlight assembly.

Lesson learned, always check that the headlight bulbs are properly seated after changing them. It's as easy as checking the beam pattern against a wall or holding a piece of paper about a foot or two in front of the headlight. A crooked bulb will have a terrible beam pattern.
