I was thinking about hooking up the LEDs to the yellow parking light bulb plug. The LED array wire leads all the way to up that top right corner. There room there to snake it under the yellow plastic piece. This way, I'll have the option of having just the parking light on (one notch before headlight turning on).

I don't have confidence with the reliability of it. I really don't want to open the headlights again to fix or remove it. If one or two LED dies in the array, it will bother me.

I am leaning toward not putting the LED inside the headlight housing and finish up the project this weekend. It looks so good though!

Ok cool. That is what I was thinking of doing as well.

I'm going to somewhat hid my LEDs under the "ledge" above my projectors. That way if they fail at some point I can simply unplug them and not have to rebake the headlight.

I think I'm going to try and get that done tonight.

Yea, that's true. It is hidden behind the fake LEDs for my headlight. If I don't power it, it will look just like stock.

I just spoke to Matt. He gave me more confidence so I will put the LEDs in. This means, I will not be able to complete the install this weekend.

    Just do it. :)

Ohh and after watching this video I just want to cry. Those S2000 projectors are crazy insane bright compared to mine!

S2000 projectors are very good for low beam. It doesn't have high beam so it is not applicable for us.

Morimoto mini reserved some light for the high beam. I think it is a good compromise.

    Cool!
You know, while I had the headlight assembly taken apart, I would have taken out the orange reflectors to make it look like the euro style headlight. :)

Good suggestion. I thought about doing it too but I want to keep it there for three reasons:

    - I want to keep the stock look.
    - I don't want to violate any DOE headlight requirements to pass future inspections
    - It will help hide the LED power wire

Ok, some good news and some bad news. Good news first. LED lights look incredible.

This is how it looks when both the projector with 4300k bulb and LED are powered up.

Right in front, directly on the beam. LED is still visible.

Here is a problem. The lower projector beam is hitting the reflector. I did not have that part of the reflector screwed in but it is seated. I'll have to screw it in and try again. I don't know if it is going to make a difference.

The pattern of the beam resulting from it. Notice, the bottom of the beam getting blocked off and reflected to above.

Fantastic photos Dennis. Thanks. I can see what you're talking about (I could never take photos that well to convey exactly what I mean).

I would think that screwing it in should fix your problem - the threads may angle the projector up just a tiny notch.

This is with the headlight aimed all the way up. The halo rings are gone now but the level may be too high after I install it in the car.

I'd wait until you get it in the car before you start worrying. I had to raise my headlight level from the stock position so maybe you will too.

Does your Mini D2S projected light hit the bottom of the reflector?

I nver noticed it while looking at the headlight but the projected beam does not appear to be affected by anything. I'll look again later today. :)

lol.. I was just thinking how come no one did a projector retrofit and I come back and find out that you've not only thought about it, but actually did it! This idea came about when I saw that the European RAV4s had projector headlights (some had HIDs, some halogen projectors) while our RAV4s have multi-reflector headlamps.

I got the replacement LED strip. After speaking with him about it, he shipped it out within a hour (got email notification).

I am waiting for my 5000k bulbs. I should get it by Wednesday or Thursday and I plan on finishing up by then.

Hey, are you using the original ballasts F8L? If so, did you have to make a new notch in the OSRAM bulb to fit the D2R plug?

I'm using the original factory ballast. There were no modifications needed to use the stock ballast. The factory connector fit right onto the Osram 66240 bulb.

Both headlights sealed for installation tomorrow. If everything goes well, expect some pics tomorrow night!

I'm so jealous! They look great! Do the 2006+ headlights fit my 2005?
