I'm a new guy here, not currently a Prius owner but I'm seriously considering one.
I have an appointment at a dealership to test drive one for the first time in a few days. This will be the first hybrid I have ever been in. It seems as though everyone on here loves the car.

I currently have a 2015 double cab TRD Off Road Tacoma that I bought new in Oct 2014. I LOVE my truck and I have modified it a lot but there has been some cut backs at work and a future layoff is not out of the question. So rather than me needing to get rid of it if the worst case scenario happens I have decided to part ways with the beauty just so I can rest easy if something does. 17 mpg in my truck vs the 60+ I'm seeing here would definitely be nice. Over all with the truck, gas and insurance I'd say I pay roughly $800 a month on it.

I'm really hoping this 2017 Prius Two doesn't disappoint!

I mainly drive in town to and from work which is about 15 miles a day 7 days a week. So from what I have read I should be in electric mode most of the time? I actually have 2 routes I can take, one being about 4 miles highway and the rest city or all city and they both total the same mileage.

I'll include a picture of my beloved Tacoma just because.....I love it!

Any tips on what I should look out for with the latest model would be much appreciated!

welcome! i hope the transition from a truck to a prius isn't too shocking! if you want to run in electric most of the time, get a prius prime plug in.
the prius two will be a mixture of gas and electric. 60 mpg maybe a bit enthusiastic, though not impossible. shoot for 50, and hoe for a pleasant surprise. all the best!(y)

I'm only 1 month into owning a Prius, so take my thoughts at minimum.

When I test drove, I was in a Two ECO, it had an all black interior and was the metallic gray I wanted. Thankfully, the salesman explained that the Two Eco was missing the rear wiper and had a fix a flat kit in lieu of a spare tire. The wiper I could live without, the spare to me was a deal killer. I opted to wait for a Prius Two which has a spare. I have not had a flat tire on a car since I was 17 (a very long time ago), but I would rather have the spare instead of the couple of extra MPG's. Just my personal opinion.
Also, I originally told him I wanted a gray interior, which is Moonstone in the prius. Again, salesman to the rescue.. He walked me out to show me another model with the moonstone interior. It was a bit too black and white striped for my taste. I went with a black interior. I also added leather seats which the dealer had a 3rd party install for me, but that is just a personal taste.

Since I am usually alone when driving, I did put the back seats down as I felt the view out the rear view mirror was a bit obstructed. It does help. I just leave them down. I had a Camry for the last 10 years and I honestly cant recall anyone ever sitting in my back seat. So, not a big deal to me.

Other than that, it has 4 wheels, A/C, and gets me to where I need to go. Oh, and I am averaging 59mpg over the past month. I have read that the Prius loses some MPG in colder weather, but as I live in Florida, I won't have any chance to really comment on that.

    BTW, love the truck!

I wrote this some time back, a Gen 4 does not have the 12 volt battery in with the passengers, so do not worry about that.
Also a Gen 4 does not have the variable sized gas tank of the North American Gen 2 so don't worry about that.
On the Gen 4, coasting to above 62 from below 62 MPH is way less likely than the 42 MPH of the Gen 2. Don't do it.

    Thanks for your input guys!

I'm still not 100% sold on it because of the looks. I am looking at the Hyundai Ioniq and the Chevy Volt looks really nice as well.

I'm hoping that stepping down isn't too much of a shock as well. What I'm hoping for is that nothing happens at the company I work for and if I get the hybrid I'll just double my payments so I can get it paid off faster and then get another truck.

The 2017 Prius Two models just arriving now at the dealers have a couple of additional safety features standard.
If you are looking at the Volt you should also consider the Prius Prime which is the plugin model with more features than the Liftback and better gas mileage than the Volt.

I understood if you include the Prime's federal tax credit for plugins the price of a Prime Plus is close to the Prius.

Does the Prius get a tax credit?

Only for electric vehicles and plugin hybrids. I believe the Prime gets $4500

    Congrats!
Are those aftermarket fog lights? The Trim Two just has blank panels there normally.

Out of curiosity, did you go black or moonstone interior?

    Black.

I don't care much for the moonstone look and I would totally ruin the white because of how dirty my job is.

I agree. The black looked too dark for me so I ended up with the beige interior in my Blizzard Pearl Two.

Did you get the carpeted floor mats? I have a set that came with my 2017 that I could sell. I ended up buying the Toyota rubber mats from an Amazon marketplace dealer.
