I have a 2006 prius , I want to install a magellan 3140 GPS above the rearview mirror in place of the sunglass door.
I removed the door and installed a bracket.
the GPS works great there but I don't like having the power cord hanging, so I want to remove the light assy and wire up and bury the power adapter above the light assy. I should be able to tap into the power wire for the reading lights.
I removed the 2 screws in the top of the assy but it won't come down.
does anyone know how to remove it??

    Thanks for your help.

Exactly. Very easy to do, even if you don't have a panel/clip removal tool. Just slip a butter knife in one edge and pry it out then pull straight down. First time I did it, one of the clips stayed back, so I had to use a clip removal tool to take it out. These are the white clips, not the blue kind, so they're super easy to deal with. You won't hurt anything.

Q: has anyone replaced that whole assembly with an overhead DVD player/monitor?

    Thanks for the help.
I did get it down and found a larger red wire(for +12) and white wire with black stripe(for GND) on the connector that has +12v.
(note: do not use the larger black wire for ground because it is only ground if you have the door open... I found that out the hard way. )

I connected a wire to the 12v and brought the wire out to the GPS mount.
I will post more pictures below.

I still have to figure out how to mount the small power supply for the GPS.

Its small enough that I would be tempted to find a spot where it won't touch anything and use some Velcro to attach to the map light assy.

When I first thought about doing this I figured I would mount it above the map light assy, but then I thought about how hot it gets up in that spot and decided not to mount it above .
Yes I think a piece a velcro will do the trick.

Thanks again for the help !

here are the final pictures .
for others thinking about doing this, keep in mind that the GPS instructions state that the GPS should be mounted so it has a unopstructed path to the sky.
the way I mounted it(under the roof), it should not work properly but it does.
I don't know if the magellan 3140 is better than the average GPS at getting sat signals since this is the first one I have ever owned.
If you are going to do this with a different model GPS, I suggest you try it in that position and see if it can get the sat signals it needs before you mount it.

I really am happy with the mounting spot, It is very easy to work the GPS and hearing and viewing it is perfect.

Magellan has new models out to replce the 3140 and 4040.

one of the new models is the 3210 it has a larger screen and it is thinner, here is the link

magellan seems to release a new model every 2 months.

    Hi syncmaster,

I bought the 3140 but I don't know how to transfer phone book from my phone to the 3140. Can you transfer your phone book to the 3140??

I have bluetooth in my prius so I don't use the bluetooth in the 3140.
I tried it once and my wife said it has terrible sound quality compared to the prius so I never got as far as trying to transfer thr phone# to the 3140.

Yes, my car also has bluetooth too. I bought 3140 for my brother after more research, the 3140 by design the 3140 is not able to accept phone book.
