Help! Front 12 Volt outlet not working

Good news, bad news. After driving 63 miles to my closest Toyota dealership and waiting 2 hours (that's the bad news) it turned out that the front outlet was never plugged in and it was covered by warranty (good news). '08 - 700 miles.

Don't know if you are still monitoring this thread (I've been traveling and forgot to keep up with it), but...

Do you happen to know the name of the fuse that blew? I would like to go back to the wiring diagrams and understand what happened, especially if this is not that uncommon a situation.

Has anyone found the location of the fuse referenced in this post ?
$50.00 to change a fuse !!!
It seems Toyota should provide the information or move the fuse.

Using my 2004 wiring diagrams (pages 66, 68, 314, 370, & M17) and back tracking FROM the outlet:

Fr outlet > Pwr Outlet Relay (POR) , pin 3 > POR, pin 5 > 15A Pwr Outlet FR fuse > Junction Block and Wire Harness Connector connection 1B1 > Engine Room Junction Block (ERJB ) 3D1 > 100A DC/DC fusible link > ERJB 3M1 > Fusible Link Block F15(A) > 120A Main fusible link > Battery

I don't see a "mysterious" 15A fuse; I think the Stealer was lying.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me today. The power outlet went dead and I heard the pop so I knew it was an internal fuse. I checked position 19 and 21. What is odd is that position 21 didn't have a fuse but 19 did. I replaced the fuse and added the missing fuse but no luck.

Did you find out exactly how deep in the dash is the fuse panel? I just bought the car from CarMax a few days ago so I figured I would take it to them to fix but if I can provide more data then I can prevent them from tearing apart the car trying to figure it out.

I know this thread is old, but I have the exact same problem that you had. I just checked the fuses in the driver's left knee and those outside in the hood. Everything is fine, however I have power only at the center console ( Where was this MYSTICAL fuse located (the one that Toyota Dealer changed for you)?

Still a good thread even though it started in 2008. I have a 2009 Prius with the same problem and I was unable to get both working until I replaced both fuses and it MADE me do it in the correct order to work. What finally worked was to replace the console fuse first, make sure it is working, then replace the front fuse. Both are located under the driver's side left knee fuse box. Worked for me. I also asked my neighbor -a prius mechanic- about the mystery fuse, he said he dosen't know what that would be. He thought that dealer may be avoiding telling you about a simple fix like the outlet power wire becoming loose and being unplugged. Let me know if this helps anyone.[/quote]

 

there is no "mystery" fuse deep in the dash. That's just a plain lie. There is, however, a fusible link on the outlet itself. Troubleshoot the power outlet in this order:

1. fuses 19 and 21 (check with an ohm meter while in place).

2. pull the panel that holds the outlet, unplug it and check for 12v at the wire connector for the outlet (with power in vehicle "on", obviously). If power at the wire, the outlet itself is bad. I do not recommend repairing the outlet, just replace it.

3. If no power at wire connector, wire between fuse and outlet connector bad/burnt/comprimised.

I have the same issue. I pulled the panel that holds the outlet, unpluged the outlet and have power at the wire connector. I have determined that it is the outlet. Now I am trying to determine how to remove the outlet. Also, do I have to get a new outlet from Toyota or is there an aftermarket one that will work?

 

Thanks hijack. We had the same problem with our 07 Prius . I finally realized through al these posts that there were actually 3 different power outlet fuses. I checked and changes 21 and 12 but didn't realize 19 was also needing a fuse. 19 was for the console outlet that was the last to go. Anyway once I also noticed that 19 was possibly involved I change it and both outlets worked. I'm not sure how I missed it but these posts, especially hijacks alerted me to it. Thanks!!!

This is the basic circuit. There are three fuses and two relays not counting the fuse box 100 amp feed that supplies many other things as well. The ACC relay and 25 amp fuse can disable both outlets. Grounds for this circuit are also important but are not typically the problem.
