Help with my TPS cover sheet

I had the P0121 code for the TPS sensor. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it. I also took off the TPS sensor and made sure it was decent looking on the inside. Got it back together and lined up the paint mark on the screw with the one on the body. Paint marks from the factory? Runs good and a good bit smoother. I had been feeling it bump in and out while driving and idling. Not so startling now. Test drive and the MPG was low. Around 40. Would the position of the sensor effect MPG? Will it straighten out on its own?
