Help with Techstream Error Codes on '05 and 192k

    Well, it lasted a WEEK... now we have issues again. Attached are the Techscreen shots.
    I pulled the Engine error code from my OBD2 device and it's only showing error P3017.... which is Cell Block 7 is shot. So I attached Techstream to verify this... it shows that the voltage is in par with all the others.... the last 2 times I changed Cells the V's were down by 2v compared to the other cells. So is it even bad?

    This time I was driving back home on the highway about 6 miles from the house... kept her rolling up/down the hills at a max speed of 18mph up the hills... wow was that a ride.

    Could this be another chewed wire somewhere? Or is it actually Cell block 7 thats bad even though the V is fine?

    Not a chewed wire, definitely a HV battery problem.

    It is not just voltage that goes into the algorithm.

    Take a look at the IR of block 7, it is way out of step with the rest – which are all pretty high.

    You mentioned that you have a HA Charger, do you also have a discharger?

    Have you done any reconditioning of the pack, or only charged it up?

    IIRC, you left on vacation for 5 days and then the car was down for a number of more days due to the golpher attack. Letting an old, weak battery sit for a number of days can lead to failure. You would need to load test that block. That means removal and at least partial disassembly.

    Edit: if you have a grid charger, definitely try the charge/discharge routine first.

    Watch the data live while bosck is under losd. Like reversing up a steep hill.

    Open the pack and check wiring.
    Confirm torque specs on the nuts with inch pound torque wrench.
    Check for corrosion on voltage sending wires.
    Check for corrosion on plug at the ECU in the Battery pack.

    Yes I reconditioned the battery a few times a couple weeks ago when one of the cells was swapped out because of low voltage... I'll get 2 ebay cells and swap out block 7, then discharge/charge... discharge/charge.... discharge/ charge again.

    I knew something must have been going on because a year ago when I charged it to balance the loads it would go to 240V, this time it would not charge higher then 235V... then it would drop and stay at 232V. Last year (and per Prolongs directions) it goes to 235V then slowly raises to 240V to balance. This did not happen. Would the IR of Block 7 cause this not to raise to 240V?

    Don’t forget that once the cells are swapped to charge first then discharge;).

    The environment that you condition the battery in also has an affect on the voltage achieved. As in, if it is cooler out, you’ll be able to get a higher charge.

    Can someone tell me which block if #7? In searching I'm getting mixed ways the Block #s start... some say Block 1 is closest to the traction ECU (drivers side), others say Block 1 is by the Cooling Fan (passenger side).

    I took off all the connections, tested all the Vs, they are all the same around 7.4v.... i tested ohms, they are all the same as well! So how is it reading block 7 as an issue?

    Start counting starting opposite of the ecu ;).

    What were the codes again? Did you get a code like P3017 which points to block #7?

    In that case you need to load test each module. You are looking for modules that drain faster when compared to the others. Also, you will find these same modules will charge quicker than the others.

    In regards to the battery photo, as Eric said that is definitely backwards. The module count starts from the end opposite the ECU. BTW, this is Gen specific, other Gen Prius are different. Go figure.
