It will most likely be some module(s) going bad. We plan on checking voltage of each module and replacing the bad ones.
He is driving the car in the meanwhile. He got this error 2 times in the past 8 weeks.

He stopped by today and I cleared the code for him. What I realized was that with the code present, the Prius would not shut off the ICE and on MFD, no green/red energy flow arrows were present.
As soon as I cleared the code, everything returned to normal.

Is this normally how Prius behaves under this condition? (by not shutting down the engine and not displaying the energy flow on MFD)?

I just wanted to check and make sure.

    Thanks

If you have this code (and I am sure some of you have it), and drive the car with it, I would like to hear if you observed the same behavior.
I heard about this code a lot but never experienced it first hand. I would have known otherwise.

I would think I'd get many answers about this issue and they would confirm what I wrote above. I am pretty sure the P0A80 is somewhat a common failure among high mileage Prii. But now I am thinking what I observed in my buddy's Prius isn't very common.
I will still hope to get a few more answers to make sure.

    Thanks

Don't over complicate it. Fix the obvious first...….that's the P0A80. I'd bet a dollar everything clears up after that.
