Prius sales dropped from 107k in '17 to 43k in '20. And how many Model 3's were sold then? Only 10 times as many.

Uhh...I said 'fuel efficient vehicles'....which would incude Tesla.

I knew the Tesla mafia would show up at some point on this thread...haha.:rolleyes:

Rising gas prices might push Prius sales up like it has done in the past, but there are more efficient choices now.

Are you sure about all those more efficient alternatives Troll? Not every car is available in every market. I don't consider a $60K car more efficient when put up against similar functionality at $30K.

    Premium was $4.999 today. Sigh.

The Ioniq, Niro, Escape hybrid, etc. aren't $60k cars.

AUD$5.72 for the equivalent of 1 US gal over here at the moment and climbing, in Qld's capital suburbs it was quotes at the equivalent of AUD$6.15, once you are out of the built up areas, the price really starts to climb.
No new hybrids available over here under $40k on road, PHEV around $45k

Such gasoline prices in Australia and Portugal encourages EV adoption.

    Absolutely!

I was wanting to buy an EV, but I need to, almost weekly, do a 600 km (370 miles) trip, and the range figures were cutting it too thin - and the 'hardware' too expensive to justify and have peace of mind.

Mind you, if the Mach-e was already in dealerships when I got my Prius, we could be singing a different tune, but...

An option is to add LPG to the Prius - it costs €0,68 vs. €1.785 per liter...

One has to hope an Aptera like vehicle with a ~1000 mile SIC range comes to market at 100wthrs per mile it should also remove the is gas cheaper argument

    Some did. I didn't.

Why Prius sales have dropped has been discussed ad nauseam here and elsewhere. Don't see how considering it as an electrified car changes the conclusion. Then again, I don't see electrified as EV, but as ICE, because it is using gas for 100% of its energy.

The first bit seems typofied, but think you're saying a hybrid derives 100% of it's energy from the engine? That's true but, it could maybe be argued: IF a regular gasser was also said to get 100%, then the hybrid exceeds 100%. True it's just more effective at utilizing the engine's energy, by using the car's inertia to charge batteries, but...

It's a fine point, and you're technically right, but it's nice to say the f

A winey zoomer complaining about outdated interior, touch screens and SUVs

Yeah I watched that and fell asleep

I can only imagine his comments if he road a motorcycle, not enough touch screens, outdated, no air conditioning, not enough cargo, can’t see over semis, not enough acceleration etc

Exactly this, not really a real review, he could have been recorded having a tantrum in a Burger King drive through and it would have been more informative and entertaining

not much of one, just a droning dude driving a car complaining about 0-60 times

I got about half way through, got exasperated. Seems typical of too many "car reviews": the guy's mainly just talking while driving said car. His obsession with 0-60 times is of little interest to me.

I'd say the hybrid doesn't exceed 100%. It does a much better job of running the engine where it converts the fuel's energy into usable work, plus it can recapture some energy when braking.

You could do the first part with a gasser by downsizing the engine so the output required most of the time matches up with its efficiency peak. If it's too slow, add a turbo for those limited times of higher power needs.

Work has been done with hydraulic hybrids (HHVs). Same principles as HEVs behind how they reduce fuel use, but they aren't electrified.

I lump them all together because of that 100% fossil fuel use. Using less is good, but it isn't enough. Renewable fuels will help, but going 100% to them for the fuel supply will face cost and supply issues if the fleet is still mostly non-plug in.

Honda's latest (non-hybrid) CRV does that, with a turbocharged 1.5 liter. Gets surprising good mpg ratings. I've heard there's been some "issues" though. Gas in the oil somehow?

Bisco made a point to single me out in another thread for not staying on topic...I made the point that nearly every thread around here gets derailed in about 5 minutes...haha. This thread is a prime example.
