I thought her foot was on the brake? Or was it the accelerator? Or was it neither? I call, "Liar, liar, pants on fire on this one."

That's the statement that really caught my ear as I watched the story.
I was wondering if anyone else would catch that particular goof!
Duh, foot on brake, stop car.....

They only pick on Priuses 'cause it's so much fun to watch their owners flop and twitch.

    Ignore them....and they'll go away.
I always ask: "If it's such a goofy little car...why are they selling so many of them?"

Probably at least 60. Those little old ladies from Pasadena can't keep their feet off the accelerator.

And how many other cars had accidents today?

The trouble with the Prius is it just doesn't use enough gas for American tastes.

i don't know about you guys, but at least once a week, someone around here drives throught the front of a business or into a house. just yesterday, a naked guy drove his pickup into someone's livingroom up in maine. then, he get's in a fight with the homeowner. but rarely, do you hear them claim unintended accelleration. they MEANT to do it.

A friend told me that someone drove into the CT State DMV office in Old Saybrook, CT the other day. Gotta wonder if that was intentional!!

Yep. Story is screwy. If she has SKS and didn't have the key in the slot, removing the key from the car doesn't stop it. This is user error.

If she had the key in the slot (on both SKS and non-SKS cars), it's physically locked in while in READY mode and can't be removed, unless she somehow broke the mechanism.

As for still accelerating when she was out of the car... duh.... if you leave the Prius or any automatic transmission car in D and get out of it, it still creeps forward, by design. Same goes with "foot was off both pedals".

It sounds like this person doesn't know how to operate their car. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a case of pedal entrapment coupled w/user error or a lie.

I got to thinking this morning, which is a scary concept all in itself. Did anyone else think about how people talk about how good of a driver they are in their normal course of the day and how "crazy" or "insane" or "idiotic" everyone else drives? And tons of people would joke about the person that couldn't figure out how to stop their car if they ever needed to, but then when it happens to them it was the cars fault? I will continue to claim that the module at fault is that seat to pedal interface. Well, at least until one of those Google computer driven cars starts to accelerate wildly out of control. Then you have computer error of some sort, and possibly a better chance of convincing me that the car may have actually done something out of the norm.

seems like she pressed gas pedal instead of brake and then panicked and then invented the story to not be embarrassed.

Embarrassed or liable for damages. I this explains all such rediculous claims. Learn how to drive, people!

well, lets see. was going to use my "much less than stellar" memory but decided against it.

so we have a Mercury Sable, a Nissan Sentra, a Ford F 150 AND F 250 crew cab, and a Mercedes 240 all exhibited the same issues in my area since the beginning of the year.

only one; an SUV, killed a 16 YO kid. ran him over as he slept in his bed. the kid was over 6 ft tall and weighed 300 lbs and a football player. goes to show you that size will not always protect you.
