I'm thinking about getting a catch can & really don't want to figure in the middle of the work that I have a hose with the wrong diameter.
so nebody knows what's the inside diameter (11/32, 15/32, 19/32 or whatever mm's) of the original pcv hose?

No, I don't know the diameter. But if you're driving a Gen 3, don't forget that the funky labyrinthine wart on the side of the block, that the PCV valve screws into, is already an oil separator.

That's it from under the Prius. It ultimately ends up under the throttle body. When you pull the throttle body or actuate the butterfly valve, you'll see the oil accumulation there.

Not sure on hose size though:(.

I meant where the accumulated oil in the 'labyrinth' will go.

    SCH-I535 ?

Love that oil catch container idea (that picture was quite convincing to say the least), still not sure where to will route it, and then there is the need to find the right container.

The attached PDF is what got me started on my PCV today, though naturally a different path (and much harness wrangling) was had when all was said and done (quite interesting how this PDF jumps from sure no problem to... Wth) o_O

Both sides looked quite clean and rattled freely, it offered little resistance when blown in one direction. Not sure if it was still usable after 149k miles, but i squirted both sides with throttle body cleaner (nothing came out) and called it new again. Did I do this because of oil lounging in my intake, and with high hopes of breaking 50mpg, YES.. will either of those happen after cleaning an already new looking (though still probably worn out) PCV, doubtful as best.

The only thing that would've made the whole process easier is if I had the right tools for the job (either a long handled 19mm 12pt wrench or a ratcheting 19mm wrench, please let everyone know if you find a socket/ratchet combo that works). It wasn't that hard to get out once you have all the extras out of the way and turning, then the fingers took over from there (my PCV did have stuff on the threads).

Now had my engine compartment been spotless like Dr. @Rebound 's there would've been no reason to wash my hands twice, let alone once. Maybe I can save some face and polish up the butterfly and intake the next time I'm in there (just saw @Patrick Wong 's intake image)

Drains right back into the crankcase. Where else would you want it?

The way it works is described pretty well in the New Car Features manual.

I've yet to look at ours, but for an 06 Civic Hybrid, a long-handled 17/19 mm ratcheting wrench (with swivel heads) was the ONLY way I good PCV valve off without intake manifold removal (as instructed in the Shop Manual). Sounds like it might be utile on our Prius too, will see when I get there.

3/8 inner diameter is correct. Then cut the bigger hose in half from the intake plenum and put a 3/8 coupling on it. Thats what I did to get the catch can/mason jar to work.
