Household electrical outlet question

    The black wire is the hot "feed". It might have a wire nut bundle in the box too.
    The red wire is the "switched hot" that goes to all of the connected outlets in a daisy chain fashion.

    The white common wire is just bridged through at or near the box with no actual connection there.

    Problem solved, had the lamp electric plugs in the wrong outlets.....stupid, stupid, stupid.....

    You aren't the first or last to do this. I put a computer running a media center on a switched outlet by mistake. Spent a bit of time figuring out why that didn't work. Mark the outlets as "switched" with a label maker or colored sticker.
