    Hello,

Is there a way that i can know if the Prius HV battery is original?
I have a Prius 2006, and i need to replace the battery with a new one.

Agency battery price of nearly $ 2,542, without wages required for installation. (New battery)
And the price of a local garage $ 2,260, including installation fees. (New battery).

I am a very confused, if the battery from the garage, original.

Is there a specific code on the battery to make sure it?

    ( I'm from Jordan)

It could be a Toyota battery.
They should be able to buy parts from Toyota and then install them in your car.
The local garage may charge less than the Toyota dealer.

You could ask to see the part ahead of time, or some sort of paperwork showing that it is a new Toyota part.

    Thank you very much ^^
but is there a way to be sure it's an original one, from any code on the battery on the modules in it?

    welcome!
i would think a new toyota battery would have a correct serial # and matching modules inside. would definitely take some investigative work before installation.

i haven't heard about fake batteries, but the cells inside might be a different story. can you ask the agency and the local garage any questions?

i think eric can answer your 2nd and third generation battery question.

Yes, there are "generic" Chinese manufactured modules, so be very careful. Reputable battery rebuilders in the USA will not use them as they are too unreliable and have a high (25%) rejection rate straight from the supplier.
Technically no, the original modules are no longer manufactured. However the latest generation modules are used to build a new Gen II battery packs.
Yes, it can be done as long as you use all 28 modules from the (same) Gen III pack to replace all the Gen II modules. It is not advisable to mix Gen III and Gen II, if you desire to build a long lasting battery pack.

Yes, there should be a date code within the pack serial number on the outside of the pack. There is also a date code as part of the serial number on each of the modules inside the pack. So, if you are able to open the pack up, you can check each individual module. If it is genuine pack the modules should be closely sequential and the month should be with 3 months of each other.

This diagram will show how to decode the serial number on the outside of the pack:

This diagram will show how to decode the serial number of each module inside:

Thank you very much, very useful and intersting information.

The last question. Chinese modules/batteries is there any way to identify them?

They will not be Toyota branded. The only place to get Toyota modules is from Toyota's supplier and nobody, but Toyota, can buy genuine Toyota modules. Toyota do not sell modules individually, so be very suspect of New Toyota Branded modules, they could well be counterfeit.
