How can I mod the DRL to have it on at all time? (for 2013 models)

    Correct, according to the instructions, I don't have a 2012+. ;)

This is a dumb question, but your pictures don't show it... you have two 5 amp fuses inserted in your tap a fuse device, right? :D

FYI, the DRL goes off when the headlights come on because the law only allows four (4) headlights to be on at any given time.

    So DRL (2) + low beam (2) + high beam (2) = 6.

It's the same reason why the foglamps go out when you put on the high beam.

Just be careful so you don't get a ticket and/or fail inspection.

Maybe that plug is bad? I just used a paperclip and a wire. Put the paperclip in the relay slot and the wire underneath the original fuse in its slot.

Wonder how that law applies to people, like myself, that have the stock LED headlights. Does that mean it's against the law to use your fog lights or high beams at night?

I think it can be argued that the two LED projectors count as one "headlight" on each side.

Some modern cars come factory equipped with multiple low profile LEDs as headlights, with as many as 5 to 7 "lights" in each array.

If it's OEM then it's legal. Your LED is compliant with SAE/DOT standards, and each assembly would be considered to be 1 light.

Now that just applies to the equipment being legal under federal law. There may be local laws that restrict the use of fog and high beam.

You need two fuses, one in each slot, in the fuse tap. That's why it doesn't work.

Put the proper fuse rating in too (5 amps) for each slot, or you risk damage to your factory wiring or electrical system if you get a dead short somewhere.

I found this diagram that shows the pathways of both Fuse slots. Shouldn't the fuse rating be at 10amps? Based off of Scooter4n image?

    Mahalo!

Yes, you are correct. The fuses should be 10 amp rating, I somehow mistakenly remembered the red fuses as being 5 amps.

P.S. Love your Haleiwa sticker in your avatar pic! One of our favorite restaurants for lunch is Pizza Bob's in the Haleiwa shopping center. :p

So should I be good running two 5 amp fuses or did I actually need two 10amp fuses. I was taping into a slot that originally had a 10 amp fuse before.

You need two 10 amp fuses. Sorry for the confusion my error caused.

5 cent route use an old piece of wire, I used a piece of 14g speaker wire and two spade connectors. Cut one spade with tin snips so it would slip into one side of the fuse and then connected the other end to the spot where I removed the relay. No need for a Fuse splitter!

Is this just for looks? The DRLs serve no functional purpose when low/high beams are on.

I just did this mod today, using a low profile add-a-circuit, two 10A fuses, and one 14-16 AWG blade connector. Yes, I could have used just bare wire, paper clip, etc. but total cost is only $3 for a protected circuit.

In my case, the looks are nice at night but the real reason is because my significant other routinely turns the headlights to OFF rather than DRL. So when she's driving around during the day, the DRL's are off. By doing this mod, she doesn't have to worry about the headlight switch position during the day because they're always on.

As a side note, the fog lights for Gen 3 are for looks too since they throw so little light where you need it. This mod could be considered the poor man's fog light kit. :)

I think that's why they moved the DRLs in 2013. Toyota probably wasn't seeing any real demand for fog lights and LED DRLs are better than having a spare lamp run in the headlamps all the time.
