I think it was the Saris roof rack you see under my canoe, is what I was looking for how I found PriusChat in 2006. That was a great first experience as they are fantastic roof racks, unfort Saris stopped making them around 2006, but we got one of the last ones made.

At the time we were replacing a minivan, so we needed roof top box and rack to make the Prius work for us. Today we don't use the roof rack or canoe too much anymore (got a Kayak somebody here recommended that too).

I followed Danny over from SpyderChat in 2003 to cheer him on in his new venture, PriusChat. Then that first site crashed and disappeared but Danny persisted, I re-upped in 2004, and here we are.

I was looking to buy a Prius or a Honda Insight in 2007 and found this site to learn all I could. This site convinced me that the Prius was superior to the Insight. (Of course history proved this to be correct!) I put a deposit down on a Prius but the salesperson tried to play games with me so I got my deposit back and bought my wife a Honda Accord!

When the new Gen 3 came out in fall of 2009 I jumped at the chance!

I have learned so much about the Prius but also about DIY. I have tackled many DIY jobs from this sight that I probably would not have tried before due to lack of confidence!

I started lurking in 2005 when I got interested in the gen2. Didn't sign up and post anything until after I got the Prius.

    Why are you still here?

"How did you first end up at PriusChat?" begs the question, "Why are you still here?" for non-Prius owners and drivers.
    • Some were former Prius owners and habits may take awhile.
    • Some seek confirmation of their vehicle change decision (or a little regret?)
    • Never owned a Prius can look SPAMish selling if it goes on too long.
A lot of Prius owners show up and soon disappear:
    • Got the answer that was in the unopened Owner's Manual.
    • First set of tires wear out.
    • Prius are reliable for the first +500,000 miles.
Of course there are some Prius owners who want to find what is not in the manuals and papers.

So, Why are you still here?

Not my answer to why I'm still here. I'm here for the witty repartee.

I joined in December 2016. I purchased my first Prius on April 1, 2017. My previous car was a Subaru and I was a member on the Legacy forums.

The Prius owners on here are Night and Day different from the Subaru owners. You guys/girls are very friendly, helpful, and never critical of other's questions. Meanwhile the Subaru owners would rather reply with "read the manual" to every new post or question presented. It was infuriating to say the least.

So thank you for changing my perspective and making me feel welcomed! All the best.

We do encourage folks to read the manual, but it is huge and incredibly dry. you could read it as a sleep aid and not finish for years.

Some sentences only makes sense once you know the right answer.

And pretty much all basic maintenance has been stripped out. :(

I ended up joining after test-driving a Gen 4, and realizing... wait a minute, this is actually good, I could actually see myself buying one of these - especially after I hated the Volt, and the Model 3 being a sedan was revealed.

Also, you want to see a lack of basic maintenance in an owner's manual, look at a VW owner's manual from the last, oh, 20 years or so.
