I want to mount my scangauge in the compartment below the CD player and drill a hole to run the wire down to the OBD connection. I can pull off the big plastic trim piece that has the front cig lighter, but how do I get the trim piece off that is right below this compartment? Is ther an easier way to get to that little compartment so I can drill a hole? Thanks.

I used a long 1/2" drill in a variable speed drill set on very low, then drilled into the back lower left hand corner until it broke through. Then I inserted a plastic rod through the hole, tied a string to it and the scangauge connector, and pulled it through. Good luck-drill slowly!:D

This thread wasn't what I was expecting, given the title. :D

That whole lower panel comes right off, if you pop out the one
little fastener over around the right side in the passenger
footwell. Brings the power-outlet and wiring with it, so don't
pull too enthusiastically before you disconnect that.

I think the OP means the panel above that Hobbit. You know, the flat panel that faces the floor under the hidie-hole under the radio.

Thanks Pat - That is exactly the panel I was talking about. Anyone know how to get that off?

I figured with a title like that I would get much more help. Looks like it worked!

Take a look at this: http://www.techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/chris-dragon-dash.pdf I am also planning to drill the hole in the compartment as well; however, I would like to drill the hole in the bottom of the compartment without disassembling the dash. I am not sure if there would be anything that could be damaged just below the compartment.

I just realized your name is probably P Hoskins, but, in the spirit of misunderstanding of the thread's topic, I initially read it as "fo-skins".

    (Gotta get a life!!)

That's exactly the way I did mine. And it fits in there very neatly, no wire visible, I can still close the door.;)
