The bit at the end of that article where he flipped the modules and wired together is not really necessary and is a waste of time. This is not what it means to balance the battery, and if you look at the end, he calls it for what it is, equalising. The 0.17 V difference is not worth worrying about.

There seems to be a chunk of missing information from the beginning of the article where it seems he has charged/discharged each module, which is the process of balancing. In doing this process, he seems to have got each module fairly close. He could have, at that point, put the battery back together and installed it in the car.

So, to get to your question, what makes you think that your battery is unbalanced? The fact it won't go into reverse?

So is the car a 2001 Gen 1, as in your profile? How many miles on it?

Have you read the codes? If so, what were they?

If you do have a 2001, you might be better to try and source 38 newer modules from a couple of Gen 3 packs and just rebuild the whole pack. Those Gen 1 modules gotta be close to being next to useless, by now.

You need to charge and discharge each module several times, either individually using a RC hobby charger or all at once using a grid charger.

What you choose really depends on your resources.

There are a few good threads in the Gen 2 forums that can give you all the detail of the process. Just bear in mind, at one time the only way to balance a battery was one module at a time using a RC hobby charger, but now there are grid chargers available and it is easier and quicker to grid charge all at once, so it might be an idea to skip forward to the newer information.

    Good luck.
