    Where I park at work (with hundreds of other cars), I only see one Gen IV Prius, along with about 3 other Prii, including mine.

    I wonder how long it'll take before the RAV4 Hybrid gets updated with Gen 4 versions of Hybrid components...

    Length of previous RAV4 generations, first to third: 6 years, 6.5 years, 6.5 years. The current RAV4 is the 4th-generation model, released in 2013 so it's roughly in the middle of this product cycle. Hard to say if they'll give it a mid-cycle update with the gen-4 Prius driveline. If I had to guess, I'd say they go nope to grafting onto this gen RAV4, and instead in 2018 they do a TNGA-based RAV4, possibly/likely as plug-in with 2x better range than the Prime as a target, and introduce E-AWD. This would be cool, and ...the E-AWD would perhaps migrate back to the Prius, since they share the same DNA, er, TNGA. This would be even cooler. Top it off with a multi-fuel (Petrol/Ethanol/Hydrogen) support option in both the RAV4 and the Prius, and you're looking artic (and maybe help save it).

    OK, your roadmap is ready, TTC*!

    But but.. sedan

    [IMG]

    I'm sure you know that the North American term for a 4-dr hardtop is sedan. I guess the Japanese use that term too. セダン

    The Prius has always been on the forefront of hybrid technology and it's used as a platform for future hybrid vehicles. The Auris uses the 3rd Gen Prius HSD and the Yaris uses a 2nd Gen Prius HSD but with all the 3rd gen updates (like Cooled EGR and Exhaust Heat Recovery System).

    The advancements we see in the new 4th Gen Prius (such as the higher engine-off speed, more compact MG2 and possibly the newly redesigned PSD). This means there's a good chance all the next gen Toyota hybrids will see a boost in motorway mpg.

    Yup

    Saloon = sedan
    Estate = wagon
    Hood = convertible roof
    Bonnet = hood
    Boot = trunk

    Electric windows = power windows
    Central locking = power door locks
    Steering wheel with reach/rake adjustment = tilt/telescoping steering wheel

    etc etc

    You could fit a small saloon in there. :whistle:

    I wonder if someone actually had the ingenious idea of a mobile saloon back in the day lol.

    Back on topic after enjoying the banter, I have only seen ONE Prius 4 in England and Wales since having my test drive in July.

    Hey! As there are so many of us, d'ya think Prius 4 drivers should salute reach other whenever we pass reach other on the road. Like the old AA (Automobile Association) men used to. Perhaps you're not that old, so a cheery wave should do the trick.

    For the benefit of our American cousins, AA (not alcoholics anonymous), is a bit like you AAA I think.

    I think I can understand that reaction. Haven't seen it done since I drove a three wheeled Reliant back in the 70's

    I tried flashing or waving at the couple i saw (if in good time) but dont think they saw me....as briefly the owner of an original Mini, i would gladly enjoy the same level of friendship on the open road where all fellow drivers flash each other.
    I will keep trying. Does make me feel a bit guilty when i pass more numerous Gen 2 and Gen 3s, but offer no such friendly greeting...
    I always wanted a 3 wheeler as teenager, take out reverse and bypass the learner driver needing a supervisory passenger rule...!

    Oh well...back in the day, when I had my 1968(!) BMW 1600 (precursor to the famous 2002), all the Bimmer drivers would flash our headlights at each other, very inclusive and fun.

    Now, you risk a ticket for 'road rage' if you flash another car with your high beams! I mean, really...it's pretty sad.

    As to how many Gen 4's I see:
    None on the road before April.
    I bought mine the first week of April, and I didn't see another one on the road for nearly three weeks.
    Then for the next couple months, it was one maybe every two weeks.
    In August, I've suddenly seen a big jump in numbers - the first week I spotted 3 or 4, the next week I was seeing at least one a day, and in the last week of August I'm up to seeing 3 or 4 a day. So it appears that sales are catching up fast in the Puget Sound area.

    A red version of the one in only fools and horses, a SupervanIII.

    Mine had a reverse gear and top speed of ~80mph.

    It was never like riding my motorbike, but a bit more like flying a plane over rough roads. More like flying through rough turbulence!

    That brings back memories for me too. I bought a new '68 BMW in '68. It was a "Polaris Neu" (silver) 2002 with a sunroof. I too can remember the headlight flashings and the feeling that we all shared the secret of this little car being so much fun to drive. That was before it became the status symbol it has unfortunately become today. I paid $3,600.

    I drove that car for 21 years and if it weren't for the idiot who totaled it, I would probably be driving it today.

    The first I've seen parked nose to nose with mine at my writers group meeting this week. It was white like mine. I don't know who it was but the two cars looked kinda cool parked like that.
