I did NOT convert my EVSE unit....

EDIT: To everyone reading this, your stock Toyota 120v EVSE unit is completely untouched, it is not modified in any way.

This means you can take it with you anywhere you go & get that free charge at "Grandmas" house, plus someday when you sell your Prime, you won't lose any $ on the sale because you'll have your stock EVSE unit for the new owner.

He bought a short pigtail, with a plug for whatever 240 volt outlet he has on one end, and a NEMA 5-15R receptacle on the other end, for his unaltered charger. For example: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KQSCS3S

If he had a different 240 receptacle in his garage, other pigtails exist.

[You need to keep a close eye on this when the EVSE is not plugged in, as it LOOKS like you would plug a normal 120 volt load into it. I would unplug it and keep it in the car, just so no one else used it in error.. A warning placard would work in folks ever read the warnings . www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR3P165 ]

I suggest you include the vital bit of info when referring to changes. Lesson to you is how easy something unintentionally omitted can lead to a very different outcome. Everyone benefits from that moment of extra attention.

Same here. I keep my OEM cable in the car an use it about 6-8 times a week away from home. Now, If I'd just made an adapter plug and ran my OEM at 240V, I could still take it with me, but that's pretty inconvenient and I'd be less likely to bother with it.

You mean like this, seems very clear....

Plus when anyone that's actually interested in this reads through my thread, there are multiple references to the fact that you are only building or buying a conversion pigtail...

It was pretty clear to me that the charger was stock, i.e. unmodified.

Most people like you & including me own 2 EVSE units for this exact reason.

I bought a used Nissan Leaf 120v EVSE unit on Ebay for $79 shipped, this stays in my Prime.

But for someone that wants to stay with just their stock Toyota EVSE, if they plan a weekend trip to "Grandmas" house; it's extremely easy to unplug the stock EVSE unit and take it with them for slow 120v charging.

When the Gen II Volt came out in 2016, owners found out that the new EVSE was able to use both voltages with the use of a plug jumper. I knew what he was talking about, too.

Know your audience. Don't assume readers will pick up on implicit mentions or understand what they really mean. In other words: more effort, more returned.

For example, I have no idea if that $20 reference is to the $59 thread or not.

Nope. Links don't always work the way you think. I suggest you read up on browsers, apps, and caching. I saw the $59 image for a third time.

No reason you couldn't build an adapter instead of replacing the plug.

This is the text from the web page (Using the Primes 120v Charger at 240 Volts, Cost $20 !!! | PriusChat), which is clearly showing $20. If you load that page, that's what you see. If there is a screen capture on this site somewhere with a picture of the $59 page, that won't change and it will be $59 on that image forever.

That's my point! He needs to be aware that the image presented when the link is provided will always show incorrect info.. hence not relying on implicit references.
