I bought my Prius IV back in October. Paid MSRP (Toyota factory MSRP). No extras. Did not buy any add-ons, practically had to pry the car out of the dealers cold dead fingers to not buy anything extra. Couple of items even "magically" appeared on final paperwork which they had to re-print. I feel I got max value on my trade-in so I left satisfied. Salespeople were decent. Didn't know that in Dec there would be discounts. Seems in Calif the Prius is amply in stock. "Max value" on trade-in took ~2 hours of haggling, but it is worth it to get them to raise several thousand dollars. Time well spent when buying a car.

Plus they threw in the Carpet Floor Mats & Cargo Mat for free ($200)

That's the same as ours (pkg-wise and thusly MSRP). We ended up at $29,700+/-, with taxes, fees, registration, etc. on top of that. Equal negotiation time. Once we got to that point, much of the remaining haggling was on the value of the trade-in.

    Good job!

I posted in another "december buyers" forum and I was wrong in that post, I ended up getting my III w/ Navigation 24800 after everything. I wasn't sure if they were telling me the truth when they kept telling me that they were giving me a "great deal" but I know that they did. Pennsylvania

I'm a litle suspicious of some claims about the amount off people are getting. When folks say they got $1,000 off MSRP, was there $1250 of dealer added stuff, plus a $250 documentation fee?

I got a II with an MSRP of $23350 for $23000, with no dealer added accessories or fees. So if a customer accepted a dealer added Prius bumper decal and a pin-stripe for $750 and a $250 dealer documentation fee, but they were given $1000 off MSRP...they really didn't get a $1000 discount.

Yah its confusing isn't it. But yes if someone is going to say they got MSRP, if they are paying ridiculous or unnecessary things like warranty / high documentation fee / pin stripe they should mention it. I personally got a BP III with Cargo/Floor Mats, Cargo Net, Rear Applique, Cargo Organizer, nothing more, for $23230. (Keep in mind the Blizzard pearl is around $220 more, and price I mentioned does not include title/tax/$125 doc fee). By my definition the same car, priced on Toyota's website, is $24,739, so I would say I got it at $1509 under MSRP...

Well, I paid MSRP, but I talked em up on the trade-in quite a bit! :)

Well actually, I brought my little brother with me, and I let HIM talk the salesman down. HAHA. I thought it would be neat to involve my little brother and make him feel cool. Of course, by little he's... 18.

Purchased a II in Santa Cruz on Christmas eve after a morning of lackluster and uninspiring contacts at the dealers. Told them I would buy by the afternoon, which I did. I paid 22,350 ($1,000 below MSRP), only option was floormats. Salesman was upfront and gave me a good price right from the git-go. Drove over, signed the papers....deal done.

All the other dealers are calling every hour...they are sounding kinda desperate. Thanks for the help from the folks on this site who posed pricing.

Just bought my prius III with solar roof package (including floormats). We got the car for $26258, which was the invoice price. The documentation fee was an extra $55. Of course, there were fees for tax/registration/license, etc.

My Prius II is a week old, bought 12/19/09. Dealership in Everett, WA was listing an internet price of $21,199 including mats (tax, lisc and doc fee were extra = 9.5%+200+100). Went in with a check, out the door in an hour. No mess, no hassle transaction. They've since then adjusted the price to $21,599.

I figure I got a pretty dang good deal.

Sounds pretty good, but tax was 9.5%?? I thought nobody beat NYC at 8.875%.

Los Angeles is at 9.75% & SF is @ 9.5%, here in Sacramento we're at 8.75%. The state rose the sales tax by 1% this year, insane....

I paid full sticker price for my Silver 2010 Prius V with Nav and Advanced Technology Package. There was only 1 dealer in the whole chicagoland area with the Advanced Technology Package so I feel I was lucky to get it at sticker.
