Here in Italy 95 is €1.50, 98 is €1.55 and clean diesel is €1.57.

In UK£ that makes it respectively 1.19, 1,23 and 1.25

For the US, $8.93, $9.23 and $9.35 per US gallon.

In Lincoln, regular was $4.51/ga today, up from $4.37/ga yesterday morning. It is at one of the cheaper stations in town too. Yikes!

State College, PA - June 7, 2008 - Anywhere from $3.99 to 4.05 as high as $4.09/gal for 87 octane. Total Insanity.. The feeding frenzy continues..

I wonder if I tell an Oil speculator that I am going to fart in the middle of the night and it will be a legitimate reason to raise the cost of a barrel of oil. That may sound totally nonsensical but it seems like any potential (and highly emphasize the word potential) event that could influence the flow of oil, will be a reason to raise the price. My logic would understand prices to maybe increase when events actually happen, not potentially to happen.. Speculation, big investment banks, etc. are driving the price to earn major profits that were lost because of their sub prime losses. There is plenty of oil supply no matter what we read, hear or what people try to say to support raising prices as much as we are seeing. Ultimately, we are having to pay for their (oil producer countries, oil companies and investors) outrageous profits.. The current pricing for energy (oil primarily) is totally out of control and is on its way to or already has drastically crippled our economy.. This is NUTS!!!

We have a 2nd car we don't drive too often (a Honda Accord). Last time I put gas in it was around a month ago (early May). I keep a book record of all our fill-ups and today I added a little gas to it. One month ago: $3.65. Today: $4.55. At this rate of change, we'll be paying UK prices by Christmas.

    Attention to Eurozone consumers.

    Attention to Eurozone consumers.

    I did a small research:
    Year 2000:
    $1 = €1.20
    1 barrel = $60 = €72

    Year 2008:
    $1 = €0.62
    1 barrel = $120 = €74.4 (average past 5 months)

Price of Fuel in Italy in 2000: €1.09 diesel €0.90
Price of Fuel in Italy in 2008: €1.50 diesel €1.55

    Where did I go wrong?

    Velly Interesting...:spy:

So inflation adjusted to 2007, oil was around $20 from 1946 - 1973 when the first "oil crisis" started and people started cursing "greedy turban wearers" because there were shortages and lineups and they had to switch to Pintos and Vegas from Mustangs and TBirds etc...

It peaked at $95 in 1980 (about end of the big recession etc.) then dropped back to the $30 range around 1987. This was when sports/muscle cars started coming back, soon to be followed by SUVs.

I DO remember that low of $15 in 1998. Oil producers were crying. That was the last big shakeout before the 10 year rise to the current value 9 (NINE !!!) times higher....

HOW on earth can such an important, widely produced and consumed product like oil rise NINE times in 10 years ??? !!!

Corner Arco today ran out of '4's. I think they tried to make regular $4.41. Mid-grade is $4.51 and high is $4.61. The sign is double sided so I guess they only have six '4's.

I've got enough gas for at least another week of commuting to my old school. I do have to take my parents to San Marcos for my nephew's graduation (he's valedictorian) so I might have to gas up end of this week. School is out June 17.

I'm hoping for an assignment in my neighborhood close enough for me to ride my bike. I'll be getting rid of my 10-speed and getting a street bike more comfortable for street riding and one capable of cargo, either baskets or a little trailer to tow.

(Cross your fingers and pray I get the library job at Clark.)

The most expensive gas prices I can remember were back in early 80’s. According to an article I was reading on Bloomberg, a barrel of oil would have to reach 180 a barrel to match the early 80’s equivalent adjusted for inflation. At that time, I was driving a Mustang with a 351 V8 and that car was a lot thirstier than my 2008 Prius!!

I own a small airplane (piper warrior) that consumes about 9 gallons per hour at 125mph. Now that’s not much for MPG traveled. Oh well, at least I can save some money getting to and from the airport. Have a great weekend!:cool:

A Town and Country down the road from me is showing 4.09 for regular. Probably by tomorrow all gas stations should be 4.09.
