if one can get a pkg. 6 otd for 25,736 then why are the used ones priced so high? I want a pkg. 6 used otd for $17,000 I live in CA. Is the touring edition significantly better?

On your federal tax, you can deduct the standard sales tax for your state for general purchases and then also sales tax on vehicles purchased.

Just bought a new shiny red, pkg 6, at Courtesy Toyota, in Brandon, Florida, for a lot less than invoice. They have a large selection of pkg 6's, in many colors, for those looking for a good deal on a 2009. After driving a HCH for the past 5 years, I am amazed at how much nicer the ride is in the Prius and how much more solid the whole car feels. Now if I can just learn the art of hypermiling, I'll be a very satisfied customer.

I'm in the Market to buy a 2009 Prius with either Option Package 2 or 3 and a Leather Interior upgrade. I live in TX (Gulf State Region), and understand that the invoice price in one region can be vastly different from another region. I'm not certain what price I should be happy with, and it's somewhat hard being patient for 2010 pricing to come out for my discount. I'm looking to buy in 2 weeks.

Honestly, I was looking for $22K max on a Package 2 and $23K max on Package 3. (Either option with leather.) Someone set me straight please, or let me know if I'm looking in the right direction.

When I decided to get a Prius, a few weeks ago, the decision was whether to get a 2009 or wait for the 2010. Knowing that I wanted atleast package 2 features and that getting a 2010 would probably mean more waiting, paying atleast MSRP and having limited color choice, I thought that I would forego the advancements of the 2010 if I could get a package 6 for the probable price of a 2010 package 2, thought to be around $23,500 plus tax & fees. After calculating taxes and fees and adding them to the $23,500, my target out the door price for a 2009 package 6 was $25,500. Although I live in Florida, I emailed 10 dealers in the Chicago area (where I have family) and 10 dealers in Virginia (which is easy and cheap to fly to and pick up a car). I waited to contact Florida dealers until the last because they have to pay an additional $700 Southeast Toyota Fee and I figured could not be as negotiable as a dealer outside the Southeast region. I emailed all of the dealers that I was going to buy a 2009 Prius package 6, this week for cash, please give me your best Out The Door price. Most dealers responded with near invoice quotes. One Virginia dealer offered a package 6 for $25,600 OTD but it was not a color that I wanted. After hearing from all the Chicago and Virginia dealers, I emailed 10 Florida dealers and again said that I was going to purchase a 2009 Prius package 6, that day for cash, and that I already had a quote for $25,600. By the end of the day I had my choice of colors in a Prius package 6 and I picked a Barcelona Red, paying less than $25,600 OTD including all taxes and fees.

My advise, regardless of the package you want, is to use Edmunds.com to determine probable invoice, subtract the $1,000 Toyota rebate and use the internet to shop for the car below that price. The dealers know that they have to get rid of the 2009's before the 2010's hit the lot, so they are negotiable. Good luck!

It did not include the tax which was about $900. The tax is based on the difference between the Prius price and the price of my trade.

Researched another forum on edmunds and this one. Thanks to everyone who has shared something or another on this forum, I was better educated at making a deal.

I was wondering if the deal I made was worthy? I sent e-mail out to a bunch of dealerships in the PA area. Finally got a deal for a Spectra 09 pkg 2 for $21432 plus tax and title/registration. Now my area is throwing a 0% financing special and if you opt for that, you lose the 1K rebate. I decided to go for the 0% financing for 36months, so my deal came to $22432 plus tax and title/registration. I mean, if I decided to pay cash full payment, it would be 21432, but decided to go for the 0% financing.

looking forward to your thoughts on this...

spidey, I got almost the same price for a package 2 at the end of March ($21200, $22625 OTD). My credit union was offering 3.74% for for 36 months, so my total interest paid comes out to be about $1400. So you're coming out ahead with the 0% financing, unless you were going to pay off your loan early.
