The only good ones were the 85 Trooper (which died smacked between a Taurus and a big pick-up truck...we drove away from the crash, but the body damage "totalled" it) and my Prius.

    92 Pontiac Bonneville
    92 Lincoln Continental
95 Jeep Grand Cherokee (rusting at the cabin as the "boat tower".)
    96 Ford Taurus (Still own)
    05 Prius (The main car)

All used domestics for 14 years. Said I'd never buy a new car due to the massive depreciation to a new car. Then I learned of the Prius and I really wanted to show my support for the technology and was fully satisfied upon a test drive. I did enjoy the Bonneville, despite it's many electrical problems. I sold it to a friends daughter and it lasted to 300,000 miles, before dying on its way to the junkyard. The Buick regal I started on was a baby blue chick repellant vehicle (or maybe it was just me). I replaced pretty much EVERY part on that thing (including the engine), which helped develop my handi-man skills, but the thing was an absolute joke and a nightmare to keep running. Our current 2nd car, the Taurus was given to me by my in-laws and it runs great, but has removed the possibility of us becoming a 2 Prius family (for now).

I'm a month shy of 43(!). Last month I traded in my one and only car, a red '98 Camry that I bought new, for my Prius. I loved the Camry but I'm loving the Prius more.

p.s. Never needed a car before the Camry because I lived in Philadelphia, Chicago and NYC where I could do everything I needed to get done relying on mass transit, cabs and my own two feet. Not until moving to DC in '97 did I start to feel like a car was necessary.

I'm sure this is NOT a record, but I've owned over 40 cars and trucks (including the four that I own right now) and over 10 motorcycles in my 56 years of life so far. Too many for me to try to inventory, but the ones I enjoyed the most that I don't currently own were a 1976 TR6, a 1985 Jaguar XJS, a 1981 Kawasaki ZX10 and a 2002 Ducati 998.

Holy Crap! I thought I was bad at 4th. I always wondered why there were so many cars sold each year. Now I understand.

    1. 1990 VW Corrado (died)

I'm 33 years old. Going by memory:
    • 1989 - obtained my driver's license and was handed down a 1978 Plymouth Volare station wagon from my parents - sold at about 120K miles for $500 (felt like I fleeced the kid I sold it to).
    • 1991 - was handed down a 1980 Toyota Corolla - rusted out and scrapped at about 150K miles (engine still ran great).
    • 1993 - purchased a 1985 Dodge Aries - died at about 100K miles.
    • 1995 - purchased a 1988 VW Golf - sold at about 140K miles (still ran well but needed body work).
    • 1996 - (just out of college) was handed down a 1990 Dodge Spirit - traded-in at 180K miles (second engine at 60K miles).
    • 1997 - purchased a 1997 VW Jetta III (first new car) - totalled by drunk driver while parked on the street outside my apartment with about 20K miles on it.
    • December 1998 - purchased a 1999 VW Jetta IV - traded-in at 130K miles.
    • April 2007 - purchased a 2007 Toyota Prius - it's a keeper!

It's too bad people aren't more llike cars, isn't it? Most of us could quite happily own two, without fear of losing our house and kids. We'd be more content with the practical and reliable daily driver, knowing a younger, sportier model was available for the weekends. :p
