So I found out why I'm not getting any voice guidance from my factory navigation system.

Apparently, I have to connect the prius speed sensor to it, just wondering if anyone knows how to do that ?

Will I need to splice wires with the HU and the ECU ?

    thanks

that's to bypass the speed lock though right ?

I'm not looking to do that right now, I just want to get my voicce guidance to work :p

You shouldn't need to do any wiring changes for voice guidance. It sound simply like the Voice settings is at "Off"

Assuming that the 2010 Nav is the same as the 2011 Nav, all you need to do is press the "Settings" button and then select "Voice" on the screen. Press the desired voice level (like "3") then press "OK".

i just recently got it installed, this is how it looks like

I read alot of threads, people are experiencing the same problem as me, and they say that the solution is to connect the VSS.

However, I'm not too sure how to do that ?

well, I bought the factory unit online and I installed it myself, thinking that the factory unit is just plug and play, I didn't know that I would encounter this problem.

Oh, sorry. I wouldn't mess with it myself, even with a EE. A bit of a coward to screw up my 32K+ car.

No one can help you if you're leaving out important information. I can only assume that your car never came with nav. You went and bought all the factory nav parts and installed it yourself which you failed to tell us. This information is crucial if you want to get any help. Since all the members here have factory navs pre installed at the factory, I don't see any way to replicate the problem you're having. Since your position moves along the route you're driving, I can only assume that the speed sensor is already wired up. Have you gone into the hidden menus to check if the head unit is receiving speed pulse? It could also be a setting that was set incorrectly.
Can you provide links to thread you're referring to?

yeah, my car did not come with factory navigation but it has jbl.

The link thread I was reffering to is this one

Sat nav - no voice guidance? - Toyota Owners Club - Australia

    post no. 3

The navigation system I bought came from a US Prius, I have a Canadian Prius.

Where do I go to the hidden menus to check if the head unit is receiving speed pulse ?

    thanks

bottom left "GPS & Vehicle Sensors" then the left button at the top right corner. Next screen will show Pulse. If that number increases as you drive, the VSS is wired up.

We have no way of knowing. Can you return it? Probably the easiest solution.

Conventional wisdom is to get an aftermarket unit. Ottonavi or Advent if you want factory look.

You're installing a navigation HU in a non-nav JBL system. There a couple of wires that have to be manually done. Someone posted the install manual. Try a search.

JBL Prius 09 RHD PZ490-G0230-00 AIM 1647-0.pdf was posted (right hand drive car). I'm not sure how different the wiring is. I'm not sure if anyone posted the left hand drive manual.

yeah, you're probably right, I'm probably going to go with a different aftermarket unit.
